Posted - 04/21/2011 : 19:47:27 As fatelvis pointed out, i obviously wasn't serious when i said Datsyuk couldn't get it done in the playoffs. If you had read my 2nd post, you'd have seen where i said Datsyuk has been one of the best playoff performers the past 5 years. He's an incredible player, one of the 5 best forwards in the game IMO.
As for bad Rangers signings, you won't get any argument here. In fact i'll give you a few more...how about Wade Redden at $6.5 million a year, Ales Kotalik getting a multi-year contract worth $4 million a season, Bobby Holik at $9 million a year...even Derek Boogaard somehow managed to land a 4 year deal last summer worth $1.65 a season. |

6 points in four games. You were saying what now? Oh yeah, you're a Rangers fan, that explains why you're bitter. You should probably be thankful New York didn't sign Datsyuk though. With the way they pay players he probably would've been a 10 million dollar cap hit. Marian Gaborik at 8 million anyone? Now THERE'S a guy who hasn't done s*** in the playoffs! But hey, at least you guys aren't paying Drury 7 million and didn't sign 7-Goal Scott Gomez for 7.3 million. (Though at least you pawned him off on Montreal) Thank God you never did anything like that!
May want to reread the context of Ryan's post, and then see the following;
"i·ro·ny 1 #8194; #8194;/#712;a#618;r#601;ni, #712;a#618;#601;r-/ Show Spelled[ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-] Show IPA –noun, plural -nies. 1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend'
Thanks for the rant though! |

Posted - 04/20/2011 : 10:01:29 3 goals & 3 assists in 21 games. And then he went goal less in the 2003, 2004, and 2006 playoffs. So while i had no issues with this signing back in '07, just as some people had posted, he still hadn't proven himself in the post season.
None of it matters now though, since signing this contract he has been one of the best playoff performers in the NHL over the past 5 seasons, and played a huge roll in the Wings 2008 Stanley Cup championship. |

Posted - 04/20/2011 : 08:39:19 i know he still won a cup in his rookie year and had 3 goals 3 assists in the playoffs, earier posters said he had not proven himself or scored a goal in the playoffs, clearly not actually knowing what they where talking about. he may not have been a star in the first cup but it still proves he knows how to get it done. |

Uh, did you happen to notice the date this poll was made??? It's from 5 years ago! |

Posted - 04/19/2011 : 18:22:47 Datsyuk is a great hockey player, one of the best offensive minds in the game, in my opinion. I consider Datsyuk to be more of a play-maker but he certainly can score.
Over - paid ?? they are all over - paid
Looking at what some others make, he surely isn`t over - paid.
Regards to playoff performance.....why isn`t this poll on Joe Thorthon ?? ....Datsyuk has a ring already doesn`t he ?? |

You don't have to feel stupid when you've been wrong on a prediction . . . after all, none of us is the Nostrodamus of Hockey.
Otherwise, you'd be a millionaire in Vegas, instead of lobbing peanut gallery comments at others with us here in armchair land.
Yeah, Datsyuk was worth it. Don't you feel silly for not seeing that?

He drives me nuts because he has the talent of a 100 point guy, though. He's an outstanding talent, don't get me wrong, but he just plays at 80% too often to be an elite guy.

Posted - 05/10/2007 : 20:20:10 He shows flashes of brilliance but overall is too inconsistent to demand that type of money. But if they're willing to pay him, he should take the money and run. Or skate.
He's a Russian, though, so a couple years into that money, he'll be traded due to Alexi Yashin-itis, a disease that strikes all Russians at some point in their career..

Posted - 05/05/2007 : 16:31:19 Datsyuk is leading Detroit in playoff goals. I think he's proving himself now. Go ahead and keep that 46.9 million. He's been looking real sharp all throughout the postseason, and will undoubtedly improve in the coming years. He's definitely not underrated. |

Posted - 04/06/2007 : 18:58:59 I chose wait until the playoffs. It is true that he has never scored a goal in the playoffs, but I belive that will change this year, I think it is a little overpaid but not that much. I think around 40-43 million is better.
