Posted - 11/10/2007 : 23:25:07 Well, Well, Well....... The feathers on the chickens seem to be a little ruffled today. I don't know why, but I can only assume that the truth has stirred some previous dormant little pangs of guilt within yourselves. I suppose spending your whole lives knowing you are intestinally too weak to support your own club will do that to you when it is brought to the fore front. When one of you typed that I should be embarassed by the Leafs record since 1967 it caused me a bit of a start but after mulling it over I can honestly say that embarassment was not it at all. The word to best describe my journey with the Maples is disappointment. Yes I am disappointed we haven't won a bunch of Cups or any Cups for that matter since '67 but I am a true soldier and stand fast against adversity and I will never quit on our team. I will always remain grateful to all of you for reinforcing my resolve that you the enemy will some day be defeated with my only hope being I do not pass before that day. As for Guest 1485 who seemed the most stung by my messages resulting in a rant in which I was threatened physically I can only say "Oh Please Don't Hurt Me Mr. Bar Room Brawler". |

Posted - 11/11/2007 : 11:02:36 I think you should cheer for the team you like to watch or if you have a friend or relative on the team.
But for me I got to go and watch the Saskatchewan Rough Riders beat the Stampeder's Ass!!!!! (I cheer for my home team when it comes to FootBall) |

Well, fun is usually a good thing. Glad you don't seriously believe what you are saying!
I will say this. Being a loyal Toronto or Boston fan isn't easy. I have more respect for you (despite your apparent insanity - all in fun ), than someone of your generation who actually gets upset when Montreal loses in the playoffs. Those guys should be listed beside "Greedy" in the dictionary.
What, averaging a Cup every three to four years is greedy?
Although I am a fan of neither, particularly, I do wish places like TO or Boston would win the cup every now and then. Chicago, too. Places like that have paid their dues. Not like Anaheim, Tampa or *gag* Carolina. |

Posted - 11/11/2007 : 09:08:18 It is not written anywhere that you have to cheer for your own team. Even if it was written some where like in my comments you are free to do as you please within the law of course as this is a free and democratic nation with a free thinking society (I think?). Generally though most people have a natural tendency to support their own such as their own family, city, province, country, school and sports teams etc. You have a right to believe and or support whatever you personally desire. In my circle of close friends we have quite a mix in that there is a Sabre fan, a Wings fan and four Leafs fans. Of course us Leafers have been getting the royal rubarb the last two years because of the success of the two darksiders amongst us but it makes for some interesting raucus behavior on allot of nights. To tell the truth, it might get pretty boring if they converted their allegence over to the Leafs. I wouldn't want them to change even if I had the magic formula to do it. So you see this is all in the realm of having fun you "traitors". |

Where is it written that one HAS to support the team where they live? Was that in one the commandments that Moses dropped in that Mel Brooks movie? I admire people who, particularly for long-suffering teams like the Leafs, stay with a team even when it loses, but if someone chooses to cheer for a team other than the one where they live for some reason or other, I've never really gotten why that is a crime.
In my case, I'm a Torontonian and like the Leafs (I guess for that reason), but in the mid '70s I started to really admire the post-Orr Bruins because they played to the maximum of their talent. I liked the heart they showed as well as the characters on their team at the time, including their coach. A road trip with a buddy when I was 17 to see games at the Boston Garden further enhanced my interest and I guess after that the Boston thing really stuck with me.
Ironically, I have suffered along with Leafs fans with the NO Cup in a Long Time thing. I empathize with that and do give marks to you, Antroman, for your loyalty. But if someone simply thinks another team is "cooler" or loves some player on some other team, likes the architecture in that team’s city, or whatever, I think that they should be able to cheer for that team without being branded a disloyal "traitor".
