It actually is that simple. At this point, he is leading in points and goals. Assists, here we come!

Posted - 01/13/2008 : 09:13:14 Listen Guest, I didn't say goalscoring was harder. I said it was a distinct, rare talent. Especially to be able to do it night after night.
No question that set-up men have very hard work. You look down the list of assist leaders, they are all unbelievable players.
However, seeing as this is a goal scoring forum, I am talking about goal scorers.
And yeah, Heatley no longer has a chance now that he is out 4-6 weeks. I thought he did, its an opinion.

Posted - 01/12/2008 : 08:18:38 I wasn't finished with you Alex such shameless boasting about your hockey skills, wow. Heatly won't win the Richard he's to far behind Iginla is possible but I agree he is more concerned with the team winning I say Ovie because he has more incentive new contract (biggest in Nhl history) never won before, won't make playoffs, and has lost the limelight to Sid. As for Ovie support I think he has better support then kovalchuk or at least equal Ovie plays on a line with Backstrom & Viktor Kozlov with a second line that includes Nylander and Semin and Kovalchuk plays with Recchi and Todd White with a second line that includes Slava Kozlov and Marian Hossa. As for Iggy being by himself thats just not been the case for a couple years now who got all there points last game Langkow And Alex Tanguay as well as Conroy and Huselius Phaneuf Kiprusoff and Regehr Iggy is the heart and soul and probably my Fav player in the league rightnow but he is not alone in Calgary that why they were losing when he was only one scoring (start of season) no fluke Kips better Flames better |

Posted - 01/12/2008 : 07:59:13 Hey Alex a goal is so a point. 1 point for a goal one for an assist and I would argue that an assist can be just as hard as a goal to get sure being a one man show and deking out a whole team is tricky (and selfish) or fighting of a man in front of the net to score is no easy task either but take nothing away from the setup man who hits his man with pinpoint accuracy so the goal scorer can tap it into an empty net or the man that wins the battle in the corner and puts the puck out in front of the net so a guy can tap it by a goaltender and forwards don't pay the price in front of the net they used to with the rule changes so you can even say theirs more talent in a defenceman (I said talent not balls) getting his point shot on net through a crowd then there is in a guy who just pounds a rebound past a goalie whos down. I'm not taking anything away from goalscorers but to say their more talented then a setup man is unfair each player has his role each are very gifted and talented some more then others and think of this Alex Brett Hulls goal total would not have been so high in St. Louis if Adam Oates wasn't there to set him up. Honestly Alex you say some dumb stuff on here I read your stuff alot and people are always destroying your arguements and generally you really don't know what your talking about but this one takes the cake goals are points thats why theres a third colum in a players stats called points and strangly enough if you add the goals and assists together hey they equal the number of points a player has come on Alex do we have to get the fox traxxx puck out for you but of course i'll cut you some slack you are a habs fan (zing 25 this year my ass I'm a leafs fan but at least I know when I'm licked) |

Posted - 01/11/2008 : 20:19:20 Kovalchuk isn't exactly slowing down...but I don't see him leading the league in goals at the end of the season. My vote goes to Iginla, because out of the leading scorers, he has the best supporting cast (Huselius, Langkow, Lombardi and Phaneuf, among others, are doing amazing), great determination (whether he tries to get the RR trophy or the stanley cupI believe it can be done), and he's also on the best scoring streak in my opinion. Not positive about the exact stats, but the Flames are on a roll, and when they're not winning games, they're still scoring! Which is kind of the idea behind the Rocket Richard no?

Posted - 01/11/2008 : 13:24:06 My vote is for Iginla. His supporting cast is looking strong and his team is getting better as the year goes on. Barring injury, Iginla WILL win the Rocket |

Posted - 01/10/2008 : 15:53:01 Listen, whoever wins, it will be close.
But I would dare to say if Iggy wins it he could open up a home depot with his hardware.
If, (even if not), Iginla takes that trophy, he could get the Hart, Art Ross and Pearson. I think he is the only one able to do that in a long long time. Which is why he gets my vote for this one. I really WANT to see him get it

Posted - 01/10/2008 : 15:42:31 In my opinion Iginla is the best player in the league (And that's coming from an Edmontonian) with Crosby and Lecavalier very, very close behind. Unfortunately though, Calgary is not as offensive orriented as the Capitals or Thrashers, so I vote Kovalchuk. |

Posted - 01/09/2008 : 13:05:11 OK but a goal is not a point. It takes a lot more to get a goal. It is a talent. Ovie really has talent, he is gifted, and will get even better. And you can not deny that without him, they would have had some serious trouble that night
Personally speaking, I can easily skate through entire opposing teams without thinking, I am fast. But I have no scoring touch whatsoever. My shot is hard, it just will not go in more times than not.
A scoring touch is a unigue gift that can not be underestimated. If you ask who has more talent, someone with 40 goals 40 assists or someone with 60 goals 10 assists, I am not sure who I would take.
Mind you, Savard or more so, Thornton can easily be regarded as better than Ilya Kovalchuk in my mind. It is a matter of opinion. Since I am a set up man, I admire goal scorers more, but to each his own

Iginla and Heatley are about scoring, but I give the edge to Heatley simply because of his amazing, unconditional chemistry with Alfredsson, and so much more so with Spezza. Iginla can do a lot by himself, but not enough to edge out the top three in my mind.
So, as I see it 1. Ovechkin 2. Kovalchuk 3. Heatley

I am sick of people saying this, yes last year he was practically a one man show but come on guys. Backstrom, Semin, Nylander. That is no support? Ya it's not the best but it's enough to win the Rocket. And I remember back when he got his 4-goal game, Headlines were like "Ovechkin beats Senators (Senators right?) all by himself." yet both Backstrom and Semin had 3 point nights and I believe someone else had 3 and there were numerous 2 point nights. |

Posted - 01/08/2008 : 19:57:35 I think Kovalchuk will win it. I want Iginla to win it though. Kovalchuk is put on the ice for one reason and one reason only and that is to score. Iginla is put on for many reasons; leadership, grit, work ethic, smarts, defensive reliability and to score. And he is scoring a lot and doing that other stuff to. He deserves to win it. But by the end of the season Kovalchuk will probably win. |

Posted - 01/08/2008 : 18:26:00 I agree with Beans, in that Ovechkin and Kovulchuk will try to win it. As Iginla will not. Not only because they are not playoff bound (for certain,) but they are more selfish players as well.
But, I had to vote for Iginla. He may not try to get it, but he doesn't need to either. It comes fairly natural to him. He will try to win the games, and with doing so, he can take that title just in doing so.

Posted - 01/08/2008 : 18:01:59 I said Kovalchuk but I wouldn't bet against Ovechkin. I don't think it will be Iginla as he is more about winning than scoring. He won't try for it. Guys like Kovalchuk and Ovechkin are more than likely not going to the playoffs, so they will be more about the scoring and less about the winning.
Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!! |
