Who is the best all around player you've seen play? The most complete player if you will.

If people are going to name the likes of defensively-challenged Lemieux, then it's fair for me to say Cam Neely(who has the same deficiency). He could score with the best of them, was 'the' prototypical power forward, a physical force, an intimidator, and could beat the heck out of anyone.

100% in agreement.
Bryan Trottier gets votes, as does Gordie Howe.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. - Gretz

These are the three guys that I've seen that are the most complete.
In order:
Orr
Howe
Messier

Crafty Willus, this IS a good question! On defence, I'd say Orr. Up front, I'd say Messier. If I absolutely had to say one or the other, I'd say Messier, only cause I actually saw him play a LOT more than Orr.

I'm obviously a HUGE Messier supporter in these types of discussions. You may be surprised to hear that I am not really a huge fan though (nothing against him but he is not a guy I really cheered for). But when I watched him play, I often thought, "this is the perfect forward". As much of a force as Neely was (and I WAS a fan of Neely), Messier had more dimensions to his game. Also, I can't think of any situation whatsoever in a hockey game when I wouldn't want Messier on the ice.

I think a complete player is someone who plays good offensively and defensively but I haven't been on this earth long enough to see but from rite now I think it is Vincent Lecavalier he can just do everything.

Its got to be Mario......he could skate, shoot, stick handle, and hit when he wanted to.

Iginla also deserves a nod
