I'd say with the emergence of petry, gilbert becomes expendable. Gilbert really is rather poor defensivly as well, so good on mambo for dumping him

All depends on your definition of 'better' as Gilbert is the better offensive player and Schultz the better defensive player. Both are the same age, signed the same length of contract. The Oilers save about $500k a year with Schultz compared to Gilbert.

With the Oilers having Whitney and Potter emerging, Gilbert becomes expendable.

I'm not sure what I think about this deal yet.
