Okay, we've covered Sweden and Russia, now the question is who is the best American player to play in the NHL?

He left because his dad was playing for the Blackhawks so he moved to chicago, I think he grew up there.

MODANO IS NUMBER 1

Lafontaine played 14 years. Is that not a full career??
PainTrain Posted - 03/28/2007 : 15:41:25
If Lafontaine played a full nhl carrer he would hold the record i bet.

Brian Leetch I would say is the best and he also has the same last name as me Also i always wore #2 when i played hockey because of him.

Go LEAFS
Beans15 Posted - 03/28/2007 : 15:19:50
I said Leetch.

And I think the question is being misinterpreted. Is it US Born player or American Player. Brett Hull was born in Belleville, Ontario.

It's Chris Chelios and Pat Lafontaine.
Why must everyone weigh points so high when they decide these things?
Chelios is a top 10 all time defenceman in my books. Any of those Forwards on anyones 10 top all time list? Unlikely. Chelli is a fantastic player and I find myself wishing he was Canadian. If you're a GM you want him on your team, not someone else's. I also like his stance on many things. He's a stand up guy. In the Olympics when the Americans trashed their hotel, Chelios payed for the repairs even though he was cleared of having anything to do with the damage. He's passionate about the game and humble to boot. I remember an interview after the 96 World Cup when the Americans beat us, Chelios was incredibly modest. He said something to the effect that It's always been Canada's game and it still is Canada's game.
LaFontaine was another brilliant star whose career was tragically cut short. Had he been able to recover, Modano wouldn't even be close to his points totals. He reminded me of Yzerman.

Long Live Leafs Nation!!

Thanks... it's now updated!

Brett Hull is now a commentator for NBC. He's on every Sunday usually announcing a Penguins game. Cool stuff.
ED11 Posted - 03/28/2007 : 13:00:27
I think it's Bret Hull. I know Modano just broke the record for most points by an American born player, but Hull was a ruthless scorer. Best snapshot from the slot ever.

Yea I didn't include him because he's so damn annoying :)
Saku Steen Posted - 03/28/2007 : 12:14:45
I think Brian Leetch was the best US born player. LaFontaine close and then Hull.
Mikhailova Posted - 03/28/2007 : 11:52:50
Mike Modano recently broke the record for most points ever scored by a US-born player, so I voted for him. Brett Hull would've been a good choice too.
