Hey guys: read this article from ESPN:
http://sports.espn.go.com/olympics/winter/2010/columns/story?columnist=caple_jim&id=4937163

I thought it was an interesting article, but had some insulting aspects.

What do you think?

Here is a quote that raised my ire from the above cited article:
quote:
We even defeated Canada 5-3 in hockey Sunday night, beating our hosts at their national game. Do you believe in a favorable exchange rate!?! The victory gave us a bye to the quarterfinals and sent Canadian fans staggering into the streets wondering how much worse things can get.

No Canada

We scored five goals on thee

No Canada

More U.S. gold you'll see

I don't have a problem with this article myself. I mean, you gotta be good if you're gonna be cocky, and let's face it, the US has been very good!

It's easy to take this the wrong way, but i think if we truly came through and were "owning the podium", you'd see an article or two just like this one from some Canadian journalists!

according to the official medal board, they won 7 gold...and canada 6 so they aint winning it all, it's only one gold medal difference, they have more second and third place, an other difference

joe is a god, if u dont agree....i dont care

That's a very good point. I read an article somewhere that discussed just this. Some medal standings list total medals, others go by golds won? In the end, we just may yet win the most golds? While i'd have loved to have seen us win the medal count, i'd be extremely happy with the most golds. This is def not a foregone conclussion either, we've got a lot of work to do yet. However, we have gold medal opportunities in a bunch of events still to finish. Just to name a few:
Men's hockey (still a chance)
Women's hockey (50/50)
Men's curling (undefeated in the round robin, still gotta finish)
Women's curling (top team in the round robin last i saw?)
Two "man" bobsled (women)....first and fourth after two heats, final tonight
4 man bobsled (not sure, do we have a contender?)
Still some speed skating, both long and short track.
Men's aerials (think we have 4 in the finals?)
Snowboard? Still slalom to come, believe we have a favorite there?

There's some serious medal threats there and possibly a handful more golds? Last but not least, a girl who in my mind is already golden no matter what happens from here on out. Joannie Rochette! I really hope this girl can hold onto a medal position or even move up but after what she's gone through the past 3 or 4 days, she has performed beyond what could EVER be expected, all things considered. My heart goes out to her and her family. Good luck Joannie!
