That 1st period by Datsyuk today was insane, he was dominant every single shift he was on the ice! Such a good player.
He could of easily had more than 4 points in the game as well. Early in the 2nd, it looked as though the Wings were going to run away with it. The couple of shifts following their 4th goal, the Datysuk line was swarming in the offensive zone & the Yotes had no answer for them. If not for Bryzgalov, it could of been 6 or 7 at that point.
How about that face of Franzens! Classic!! He was already sporting the battle scares from the season finale game against Chicago (high stick between the eyes), and then he goes face first into the boards today & is cut open for, i think it said 23 stitches! What a guy lol.
And honestly, was there any need for Shane Doan to give Franzen the facewash just after he returned to the game from the facial injury...which was the result of a Doan hit no less. I know it's the playoffs and all that, but c'mon, i thought it was very unsportsmanlike on Doans part. |

I missed the last part of the 2nd, and then the first 10+ minutes of the 3rd...did Ed Jovanovski return to the game? I never noticed. |

My Phoenix upset prediction looks mighty, mighty slim at this point. I am starting to feel like my hatred of Detroit has clouded my hockey vision.
I just really thought Phoenix was a bit better, and I thought versus last year, Detroit was not as good.
Who can tell these things? I might keep trying to predict that one year that Detroit doesn't make the playoffs, or goes out early . . . but it might take a few more years of being wrong until I'm right at this point.

Slozo, i'm right there with ya! I really though Bryzgalov would be the difference but it's been the exact opposite! He's looked very "pedestrian" as they say! Howard has outplayed him thus far and i really didn't see that coming!
Well, while you keep on predicting a Detroit first round loss, i'll continue to stockpile Sharks in my playoff pools and we'll be in the same boat. I can't believe LA shut them out IN SJ!!! |

Although I didn't make the mistake of taking either team in my pools I did bet my buddy 10$ that Phoenix would beat his Red Wings this yr & 20 if wither team got swept not looking good right now.
I actually really like the wings, just thought the abscence of Zetterberg & Datsuyk not being 100% would hurt them to much. Phx can still win right lol

Let's not forget, Detroit is too old, too injured, and just not good enough to do anything in the playoffs.
Some have been saying that for the past 3-4 years.
Right Slozo?????
Totally meant in jest and still very early, but Detroit looks very sharp and Datsuyk has been the best player in the playoffs so far. I would have said he was tied with Luongo until he got shelled tonight. |
