Poll Question:
This award is given out each year, but I don't think there is a trophy for it...oh well.

Who will win from the finalists?

Choices:

Mike Gillis (VAN)
Steve Yzerman (TB)
David Poile (NSH)

my vote goes to Yzerman - when your team goes from non-playoff to 103 points and 5th in the conference in a year, the GM usually has a lot to do with it.

Poile shouldnt win, Trotz should win coach of the year for getting 3 players to work with and still coming 5th in the conference.
Yzerman gets my vote for reasons already stated, though I think Gillies did a pretty good job this year as well.

The thing I look at is what has the GM don't this season. Gillis added Hamhuis and Ballard at the start of the year and I believe Lapierre at the deadline. Good moves, but Vancouver was already a good team. He is #2 in my list.

Poile has done the same thing every season. Drafted well, paid reasonably, that's it. But as stated, Trotz is the reason this team is where they are. He would be #3.

Far and away, Yzerman. Roloson, Gagne, Brewer alone are all great moves. His impact made that team successful this year.

Slozo, it's a landslide!!!!

Don't forget about Manny, who we are missing right now regardless of the 3-1 series lead. Torres who proved to be effective though streaky, I'm sure as an oilers fan you no all about his streakiness. And higgens at the deadline. Playing very solid and ha taken raymonds place on the 2nd line.

CANUCKS RULE!!!

I honestly can't say? I mean, i obviously hear about what Gillis has done moreso than the others, but this is a yearly award, no? That's where it's difficult to determine. I like the moves both Gillis and Yzerman made but i'm probably biased towards other things Gillis has done such as the Luongo, Burrows, Kesler, Sedin's, etc deals that have us in the position we're in. Sure, Hamhuis, Manny, Ballard, Higgins, etc were good moves, but perhaps most of what i see him having done wasn't necessarily this season?

That settles it, i'm not voting!

Alex, I certainly agree with you, but I do think it is a yearly award. The only thing standing in Gillis's way will be, as Beans said, VAN was already a very good team this season. Gillis made some great moves to make us better, but the performance was already there.

Yzerman added to the team as well, but TB improved a ton this season as well.

Poile, man I don't know how he does it. Its like ownership gives him a transmission, 2 wheels, a door, and $10, and every year he manages to build a car.

Gillis. All the additions he's made in the past year? Hamhuis, Ballard, Lapierre, Higgins, Malholtra,Torres. He added xtra depth at the deadline when everyone thought the canucks didn't need it. But with Malholtras injury higgins is looking real good. Although Stevie Y has a convincing argument as well. Roloson was a great pickup. And Gagne and Brewer. My vote however goes to Gillis.

Kesler is the TRUE Nucks Captain.

Final? If they don't get out of round 1, Chirelli, Julien and the entire coaching staff will be a memory.

see i really think Neely is the reason the Bruins stumbled out of the gate putting that kind of pressure on a coaching staff and their players what a bonehead move, i know Neely is god in beantown but he is just wrong! now if the team is uninspired by their coach and plays like they did in game 1 and 2n then i could understand thinking this buit not saying it to the media! even the Bruins playin there best are evenly matched to the Habs for exampl if this series goes to game 7 and the Bruins play great hockey and are just beat on a couple bad bounces or great plays by the habs, why should the coach suffer, its not like they lost to the Oilers (sorry beans) 2 wins seperated these teams this season! judge Julien on how he coachs the series not the outcome!

Yzerman gets my vote, in a landslide

The Lightning were picked by many - including Beans - to still miss the playoffs this year, and the ket additions that Yzerman made were almost all great ones. Gagne was a steal, at the time. And . . . he just brought a whole new mindset, a sense of "plan", and a huge pedigree of winning.
