Just watching the Canucks game and they're reporting that Doughty has finally agreed to a deal and will fly to Europe with the team for an exhibition game or two, even though he missed all of training camp.
They're saying it's a deal worth more than Kopitar's and Kypreos / Maclean are speculating that the yearly hit will likely begin with a 7.
Sounds like the Kings caved in the end, at least somewhat.
I really wish they'd made him sit!

8 years, 56 million is what's being reported now.
Doughty wanted it to start with a 7, he got it. I guess the Kings got the long term deal they were seeking, but Doughty now becomes the league's 3rd highest paid dman, at the ripe ol age of 21! |

It's a lot of dough for a 21 year old defenceman. A lot.
Let's see . . . how many huge, long term deals have worked out in the past for very young defencemen . . . ?

To this point, how many big contracts have gone to young defensemen in the past?? I don't recall a lot of them. Most of the defensemen I remember get paid when they become UFA's. Of the top 25 paid defensemen in the NHL, Doughty is the ONLY players under the age of 25. Out of the top 50 paid defensemen, only Doughty and Schenn are under 25.
My point?? Defensemen don't get paid like this at a young age. I can't describe my disappointment with the LA Kings management. |
