The Canucks acquired David Booth and Steve Reinprecht plus a third rounder in 2013 from the Panthers for Mikael Samuelsson and Marco Sturm.

Seems like a great trade for the Canucks. Samuelsson is on the third line and Sturm hasn't done anything. Is David Booth not very good after the concussions? I thought he was one of their better players...

I guess Reinprecht is in the minors, making 2.175M, but considering Sturm was signed for 2.25M I think, that's a good swap and it opens up a spot.

When was Reinprecht last playing on an NHL roster, anyone know?

I like this trade a lot for the Canucks - they got exactly what they needed in a winger capable of scoring and signed to a longish term deal at a reasonable amount, without giving up anything big to get it.

I don't know why Booth was suddenly an odd man out in FLA, unless they were thinking he was not the same player after missing most of the 09/10 season after taking that headshot from Richards. After coming back he managed 40 points in 80 games, but the season before he was hit he recorded 60 points on a pretty crap FLA team. He's big (6'/210), young (26), and played with Kesler throughout youth/junior, so there is some familiarity with him. He's slated to slot in on the second line with Kesler, hopefully something good will happen and we'll have a solid second scoring line with Kesler/Booth/Hodgson. Signed for the next 4 years at 4.25 per, here's hoping he can find his 60 point form again, and also hoping he can avoid concussions. Its a definite upgrade on Samuelsson.

Steven Reinprecht - played in the NHL last 10/11, and had 38 points in 09/10. I only know him as a faceoff man, and frankly don't care if he makes it to the big team. The Canucks can afford to eat his salary of 2.1M for the coming season playing for the Wolves, if he's a dump to get Booth, so be it.

I was ready to see Samuelsson go - despite having a great first year with the Canucks, he did not have a good second year, and was not off to a great start this year. Sturm was a crapshoot at best, and clearly didn't pan out with the Canucks, so its nice to offload his contract too.

In all, I think a good trade for VAN

We shall see. I didn't know much about Ballard when he came over from Florida and that hasn't panned out all that well (not sure how he is doing this year though).

The concussion issue is the main risk I think, hopefully that won't be an issue. Hopefully on a better team, Booth with get some points.

Ballard, as predicted by many (although not by me, so its a pleasant surprise), is back to normal this season so far, he is playing like the defenseman we thought we were getting. Very physical play, responsible defensively, continues to lay out the devastating hipcheck on a regular basis. Offensively he has been good as well, extremely fast out of his own end, and looks dangerous with scoring chances. Finally worth the 4.25 we're paying him.

VAN and FLA now have a pretty deep trading history - so far it lines up as:

from FLA:
- Roberto Luongo
- Lucas Krajicek
- Sergei Shirokov (6th round draft pick in 2006)
- Keith Ballard
- Victor Oreskovich
- David Booth
- Steven Reinprecht

from VAN:
- Todd Bertuzzi
- Bryan Allen
- Alex Auld
- Steve Bernier
- Michael Grabner
- Quinton Howden (25th pick overall in 2010 draft)
- Mikael Samuelsson
- Marco Sturm

It is interesting to note that, including todays trade, FLA has only 3/8 of the players that it traded for anymore, while VAN still has 6/7 - only Krajicek has left the team.

I do enjoy the hipchecks being dished out and I though Oreskovich was quite good in the playoffs this spring, good energy and hitting. I need to watch a few games here...

Florida seems to like taking the players we don't really have a spot for anymore. First Steve Bernier, now Marco Sturm.

I too like the trade as i was kinda done with Samuelsson, especially playing the point on the PP. Sturm was obviously an extra body having been scratched a few times.

I've always liked Booth but at 4.25 i will say, he'd better be closer to the 60pt guy than the 40pt guy, or this trade will not be judged favourably. Hopefully as nuxfan said, he can click with Kesler and become that 60pt guy.

Interesting to note, his 60 point season included 31 goals and came in just 72 games. There is definitely some potential there!
