Ok, I have now seen the replay. I see it both ways. Miller seeing the player at full steam should have tried to protect himself better. Id like to have seen him with his arms up to protect his head. Instead he expected the player to respect the goalie contact unwritten rule and only turned his shoulder when he realized his mistake. His momentum and a clean shoulder check by Lucic at a good speed definatley rattled his cage.

Lucic, however IMO had intent to injure. He squared up the shoulder made no attempt to avoid contact and pushed thru the hit. If you look at the replay his arms extend after the point of contact. The way I see it, it was a minor penalty called correctly, based on the injury and my firm belief it was intent to injure, this should have been 2 games at least.

If Lucic had clipped him, but tried to avoid laying a massive hit, and the injury still occured, no suspension. There is a difference between incidental contact and a open ice body check.

Boston won the rematch, and in all ways!

Yes, it was a shootout victory, but it's 10 wins in a row for the Bruins! And they also won the physical battles. Gaustad challenged Lucic on the first shift, and he lost that bout. Later on, Regehr tangled with Chara, and it was a mismatch from the beginning. Lucky for Gaustad and Regehr that their opponents let up when they did.

And maybe we can now understand why the Sabres offered little response to when Lucic ran over Miller a few weeks ago. The Bruins are a solid physical team, who can beat you on the scoreboard, but in the alley too!

Good for the Sabres to stand up to the Bruins in tonight's game though (but what else could they do), but one thing for certain, the Bruins are not afraid of anyone! And they keep rolling along!

I don't know much about Buffalo's farm system, but surely they have a goon somewhere in their organization. I mean good for Gaustad and Reager to step up but they were outmatched from the start. Boston is a big rough team. Their fighter didn't even drop his gloves tonight. I wont call Thornton a goon because he is a real good fourth line player.
