The Ducks have lost 6 straight and are only 1 point ahead of Columbus for last place. Is it time for a change?

The coach? A big trade? what will it take?

Visnovsky only has 4 points in 16 games, after he had a fantastic year last year, Ryan, Getzlaf and Perry have 11,15 and 17 points all in 22 games, and Selanne has 21 in 22, and Jonas Hiller has a GAA of 3.17, which is brutal.

Now I am sure that they will not trade Selanne on his last year before retirement. However Ryan and Getzlaf both have another year after this, at $5.35 mil a year, and teams would love to eat that up to get to the cap floor. I think a big trade like that would really spark the Ducks and give them a nice change of scenery.

Do you guys think it is time for a change or are they just in a slump right now that they will bounce back from?

Visnovsky is currently injured as well, has been out the last 2 weeks with a broken finger and has 2 weeks to go.

However, something is not right in ANA, they're too talented a team on paper to be doing this badly. They have 2 very strong scoring lines, what should be a pretty good defensive group, and good goaltending.

Despite going through some scoring slumps this year, I do think the problem is on their backend, their defense for the most part is defensively horrible. Only 1 of their regulars have a positive +/-, and Brookbank is only +1. Cam Fowler is again a huge minus, (-11), he was -25 last season as well - but usually responsible defensemen Lydman and Visnovsky are also significantly minus this season.

I also don't think that all is well with Hiller - while I didn't know what to expect from him this season after he missed the end of last year, he has battled inconsistency all season long - great for a game or two, then absolutely terrible for a few games.

The result is a team that should do well, but does not. They seem incapable of holding leads (they have the second worst win% when leading after 2 periods, only NYI is worse), have the worst winning% when outshooting opponents (.125) have allowed the 6th most shots against, have the 3rd worst FO%, etc. Yet, they should not be that bad.

Yeah, something has to change. I don't think its a player though, perhaps they need a coaching change. I like Carlyle, but he has been there a while now - perhaps he has lost the room?

It's unusual to see a club with this many talented players struggle to score goals for such a prolonged time. They do have a good core which I personally would be hesitant to touch. That leaves us with changing the coach (whether or not it's actually his fault), or making a trade with some depth players and hoping that changes the club atmosphere. Perhaps a real energy guy could envigorate them? Other than that I say give it some time, but we all know there are too many good clubs around these days and you just can't afford to fall too far behind the pack.

I think it's just a slump, and the Ducks management realise it, and they will stick with what they have. And, in the end, the Ducks will be right there, fighting for and perhaps getting a playoff spot.

I agree they have a talented team however their performance is really disgusting. They are tied for the 2nd worst offensive production in the NHL and 7th worst defensively. They are sitting at less than 16% in the PP and are the worst team in the NHL 5 on 5. They don't take a ton of shots and they give up more shots than most other teams. Statistically speaking, the only bright spot is being ranked 7th on the PK.

The concern is that this is not game 6 or 7. They have played 22 games. They have dealt with injuries with Blake having played only 3 games, Foster with 8 games, and Visnovsky missing 6 games so far.

I see issues with both personnel and coaching. A team that talented offensively should be putting up more than they are. The anemic PP and poor 5 on 5 play tells me it is time for a change. I don't think Carlyle is a poor coach; just a change in the dressing room will normally wake up a team. The deeper concern is with personnel, specifically in the defensive core. Sure, one could look at Hillar's numbers and question his performance. However, when you have a defensive group including Visnovsky, Lydman, Fowler, Beauchemin, Sbisa, and Foster, I only see one guy that is know for his defensive talents.

Bring in a new coach and find at least one more shutdown defender.

I changed my mind - they are in trouble, and need a change.

Watching most of the game last night, I realised the problem with Anaheim: goaltending. And I don't know whether it's the defence in front of Hiller not having confidence in him or what, but it certainly looks that way. Trust me, coming from a Leafs fan, I know all about a defensive corps playing badly in front of a goalie they have no confidence in.

And it's not like Hiller was even the main reason they lost the game last night against the Leafs - I don't think he was, specifically. The Leafs had a great, fast forecheck, and were really ready to play last night. But, the defence was very lax at times, and most importantly, slow to clear guys and get rebounds, and I noticed it happened a lot of the same way it used to happen to Toronto - guys madly trying to follow cycling players, instead of calmly playing positional, physical hockey. And Hiller, while he did make at least two great saves to prevent goals, also let in a couple on second chance efforts off of fairly ordinary shots that he gave the rebound on.

Yeah, it's the defence, but . . . I think it starts with goaltending and radiates out from there.

Hiller is just not the same goalie, and I think that problem he had with the vertigo/dizziness thing has permanently affected his game.
