Chara turned a lot of heads at the 2012 NHL Skills Competition by breaking and establishing a new record for the hardest slapshot. (108.8 mph.)
But the KHL claims they have a player with a harder slapshot, which took place at their skills competition in January, a slapshot which beat last year's "record" blast.
Last year's record was 110 mph established by Denis Kulyash, but Alexander Ryazantsev decimated the record with a slapshot recorded at 114.1 mph.
I'm sure some people will be suspect of these results, but if their radar equipment is accurate, this is quite a result. I believe the KHL conducts the slapshot skills the same, where the puck is sitting at a stop waiting to be struck, but I'm not sure?
Speaking of which (the puck sitting still), if my understanding of physics is accurate, would one-timer shots taken from a passed puck actually be faster? And if so, it just means the goalies (and defensemen) may be facing slapshots up near 120 mph in extreme cases!

| The puck is closer in the KHL competition it think? Hashtags instead of where it is at NHL if I remember correctly... |

Yeah, it appears to be closer by about 5 feet...that would make a helluva difference. Also, it looks like the Russians skate in from near centre ice, 7 or 8 strides, vs the NHL from around the blueline.
There's only one way to settle this - get them both in the same arena and have a throwdown. |

What next? Do the Russians make their targets the size of hulahoops in the shooting accuracy competition?
And for fastest skater, do they use wind-fans?

| I think the key words are: NHL Record holder. Until there is a time where they do a "world" comp, it's really a moot point. Get 'em both on the same ice and duke it out, until then, my dad can beat up your dad, yadda yadda yadda........... |
