Hmm. 3 of the 4 are americans. What does that say? Nothing to those beating the most canadian players drum.

And meaningless as t is in response to your silly comment . .. I voted Shane Doan. Not because he's Canadian, but because, I feel he is the best.

A real and true leader who gets the most out of his fellow skaters in an auxiliary role as the "coach facilitator". And he's all heart, all class guy (agressive, but on the right side of good most days) who has shown his utmost loyalty in spade in his remaining a Coyote.

Just a damn shame he plays for Phoenix.

Read the response again. I said that it means nothing, ergo meaningless. A punctuation may have been missed after the "nothing".

I think Brown is the best remaining captain. The way he's playing right now, I'd take Dustin Brown over Doan.

I'd take Zac Parise over Doan too.

Really, how are we supposed to answer this considering none of us spend ANY time with these guys, their teams, etc especially where it counts most, in their dressing room. We can only go off stats, stuff we here and the small things we see on the ice.

If i could have any 1 of these guys, it'd be Parise hands down if for no other reason than his skill is above and beyond the others. Does this make him a good captain? No. In fact, he may be captain only as a ploy by the Devils to try to make him feel more wanted and more difficult for him to leave as a FA.

Brown is playing arguably the best hockey of his career at the most important time, so it's easy to look at him and vote for him too. Doan, as Slozo pointed out, with the loyalty, skill, etc mix is great too.

Having said all that, everything i've heard about Callahan is that of true "captains". Not the most skilled guy on the team, but one with a ton of heart, desire, ability to motivate, respected amongst others, etc. THAT to me, makes a great captain, and again, i'm not saying the others don't have these qualities, but i've heard more about this guy this season than the others. So, that's where my vote went, even if it's not that easy of a question for us to answer.

I half agree - but I'll pose this question, which is how I came up with my initial answer of Shane Doan:

If these 4 guys are on the same team . . . which one would be chosen as captain by most NHL coaches?

Then, there is your answer.

Well, that's fair i'd say, and in that case, I'll stick with Callahan. I'm serious, I've heard more about this guy this year than any of the others, at least up until Dustin Brown's "Messier-like" transformation a month ago. Maybe its because there was trade talk all year around the Rangers and how they needed a key piece or two and that Callahan was "untouchable"? I dunno for sure but for a guy playing as far away from my city, i kept hearing all sorts of praise thrown his way.

Brown - Leads the league year after year in hits, takes all sorts of punishment and keeps on driving forward relentlessly. If you want your captain to lead by example on the ice this guy is the best pick. He even scores the big goals and dominates shorthanded, really can't believe I didn't really know who just guy was not long ago.

Parise and Doan are also notorious for scoring big goals for their teams and are truly one of on-ice stars and well respected players on their respective teams. Can't go wrong with either.

Callahan. Not real gifted offensively or defensively. The best argument people use for him is that people who know him say he's a great guy. Personally, when I look at the Rangers I see a team that is missing a go-to on-ice leader and settled with the best they have. (Then again I really hate players who spend more time flat on the ice calling for a penalty than actually playing the game of hockey)

Maybe it's because until now, he'd done nothing to really stand out? Heck, he was talked about at ton in trade talks and was thought to be on his way out of LA at the deadline to create room for possibly picking up Nash's salary? Trust me, if he was playing now like he had the last 3 years, you would likely not have picked him, hits or no hits!

I posted this question and I answered Zach Parise because he is one of the hardest working players for his size. Every time you watch him he is giving it 110% he is a true leader by example.:)

I still haven't seen a solid answer to my supposition: if all 4 players were on the same team, who would get picked?

I mean, c'mon - we know it wouldn't be Callahan.
And, just for the sake of experience vs youth, we know it wouldn't be Brown or Parise. Don't we?

I mean, how would it NOT be Shane Doan? You tell me. What coach would pick one of these other guys over Shane Doan as their captain?

I would submit to you that hardly any would.
