A shorter regular season doesn't seem likely as expansion continues.

Did you hear about the retired proctologist? He spent 40 years saying "what's a place like this doing in a girl like you?"

In a perfect world, yes. Lowered injuries and fatigue, increase importance to the regular season games. But the likely hood of the teams shortening there revenue stream, unlikely. Unless they can find a way to incorporate some type of a European, Khl tournament using mostly NHL rinks, to build revenue, similar to the World Cup event, but every year during a time when meaningful hockey is played (winter/spring), not the preseason, I can't see it happening.
