Year after year the wings are a powerhouse, but have come up empty in the last few years. Does this 2007 version of the winged wheel have what it takes to bring the cup to Motown?

once again, it all comes down to goaltending. they have a great team on offense and defense, the only thing that is unsure is the goaltending postion.

Well I say they certainly have a swell chance of taking a sip from Lord Stanley's cup and are argueably the favourite this year. As for goaltending, well Osgood is playing fantastic right now and Hasek always shows up in teh playoffs, pending injuries. But once again not usually does the favourite win, the playoffs are unpredictable but also what they have this season that they did not have so much last season was Zetterberg who has stayed healthy thus far *knocks on wood* and he really is playing awesome hockey as he always does when he actually plays. If he stays off of the IR then I say the Wings really have a good chance of winning this year

I have taken the challenge Think of the Nordiques, their history is not so great as say the Oilers or Habs, but think for a moment how many of these players could have played together!

Peter Statsny
Joe Sakic
Eric Lindros
Mats Sundin
Guy Lafleur
Owen Nolan
Wendel Clark
Adam Deadmarsh
Chris Drury
Adam Foote
Peter Forsberg
Martin Gelinas
Dale Hunter
Mike Ricci
Ron Sutter

Ron Hextall

Detroit was pretty much a set team coming into this season and as a result have got a good jump on the rest of west in the early going. I think San Jose and Anaheim might have a say in who wins the Stanley and if Luongo gets really unpenetrable then Vancouver might have a shot. Anaheim has lost some of their team in Salanne, McDonald and Penner but boast a defense on paper at least which could be the best in the league. They are not even at the half way point in the sked and Detroit looks like the best at this time but things could change in the second half. I am not going to hand them the trophy just yet!!!!

Zetterberg + Dastyuk.

While their primary attribute is clearly talent, they have so much more. Playmaking, selflessness, experienced, smart heads on their shoulders, determined and dedicated, and leadership.

Which duo is like that on Anaheim? Don't say Weight, he is just new on the team, and can't feel confident enough to confide in the guys and be their leader.

And on Vancouver? The Sedins lack age, while Naslund lacks consistency and talent in the way the two guys on the wings.

And San Jose is Thornton and Marleau, pretty good, but I would like to see you tell me they compare.

Holmstrom

Grit is hard to find in the way he exemplifies it. As you know, in the playoffs, goals are not pretty. Little, disciplined plays win the games. In triple overtime, dangles won't do it. But guess where Holmstrom will be? In his 'office' playing his game, getting goalies increasingly frustrated everry game. It is one thing to play this guy one night. It is another thing to see his ugly playoff beard in your personal space for seven games. It gets under goalies' skin like you have no idea. Plus, he has talent in other departments, which makes him a first liner. Find me a first liner that plays as well as he does the same type of hockey.

Lidstrom + Rafalski

Who am I kiddin' myself? Lidstrom is enough said right there! He is the samrtest player in hoceky, who palys textbook at its finest, knows where everyone is at all times, can calculate what the smartest move is and what it will lead to, can turn one-on-ones into a science, tires the opponents in one period ... And then nets point on the opposite side of the rink. Then, throw in Rafalski!

The only comparison to be made is to Niedermayer and Schneider. But the smart aspect is not as prominent, nor is the experience. Niedermayer might be more inspiring and command more respect, I will give you that.
