In the movie "The Rocket" (Awesome movie must see), in one part it says "Maurice you have never won a scoring title, you know why? the scorekeepers will give assists to the star players when they aren't even on the ice!"
Just curious is this true?

I am sure that it happened all the time before games were all recorded on video.
Each goal is reviewed, and the correct points are awarded to the correct players.
There was Leaf goal scored, when the assists were given out they gave one to Sundin, therefore passing Sittler as the Leafs leader in points.
Sundin told the ref this, the video was reviewed, and the assist changed to Kaberle.
Not all points are changed though.
Kaberle earned a goal, and his first hat trick last season. The shot he took went clearly off of Peca's shin pad, but the NHL did not award the goal to Peca, why we will never know, but if it happens in the day of video replay, you could imagine the abuse years ago...

It's true I was thinking of the Sundin incident when I read this too, they were then wondering whether all of Gretzky's 1000 odd assists were all "real". I don't like to pay attention to that kind of stuff but it is kind of a curious thing.

Um so are you saying that the star players of say 50s-60s may not have gotten every point they have been credited for? |

The margin of error in every sport is their. But, at least for the greatest players to play, the difference is not significant enought to move them up or down a spot.
Gretzky could be discredited with 929 pts and still be the leader
