Would it work better for you if I posted two questions at he pre-arranged time and two early tommorow? That would make it a little more fair.

Here's a suggestion: Could you pick 10 specific times over the next 2-3 days for us to choose from? leafsfan could pick 4 that he would like a question to be asked, and then I could pick 3. Why 4, and 3?Because that would make it a Best of 7 series, and he has "home ice" advantage. Each question is a toss up to the first correct response, and of course, the first to get 4 is the winner and moves on.

Just a suggestion to get things rolling, and to remove "time" advantage/disadvantage.

Or just post your ques's now, let's see what happens, and don't worry about it.

Ah, but it's only 1:43 here , alright here are the first two questions, good luck.

1.Who was the first player to be an All-Star in five different leagues?

2.Who was the first European player to be drafted by the NHL?

Remember, please refrain from using the internet, good luck Leafsfan and Pickles.

Q2: Correct
Tommi Salmelainen (Blues fifth pick, 1969 Amateur Draft)

Q1: This is a tough one, good luck.

okay, 99pickles from home now.

Wow, what a great question shinny! All-Star in 5 different leagues?? My head is exploding on this one.

I think there is 5 min's left so I am going to speculate here. My guess is that it happened decades ago (mostly between 1940 and 1975)...3 of the 5 leagues are NHL, WHA, and AHL....and the player's position is goalie.

Based on that criteria, it could only be someone like Bernie Parent, Gerry Cheevers, Mike Liut, or Richard Brodeur (goalies with notable seasons in both NHL and WHA)

That's all I can fathom. Let me know when we can google. Or just pose more ques's !!

I am pretty confident that none of those goalies I mentioned are the answer.

Holy cow, awesome job there pickles99, I think a couple clues should be in order:
it is between 1940-1975
It is a goalie
He was not an All-Star in the WHA.

My next two questions:

3. What player scored the first 'lacrosse' goal in a real game?

4. What mascot was the NHL's first?

I figured if anyone is going to play that well at that many levels and that many leagues, it would have to be a goalie...otherwise we would have a another Gretzky on our hands. Another reason why is because many goalies waited/languished in lower leagues before they were able to get their shot at the NHL, due to low number of job openings. Actually a lot of those goalies came from Quebec...(I should have guessed Hodge or maybe McNeil come to think of it). I erroneously figured their career would have to overlap WHA just to get that 5th league in there, but like I speculated, there weren't that many NHL All Star caliber goalies that had All Star-type seasons in the WHA.

So now it's obvious that it's an old-school goalie. Well, there weren't that many different goalies to get ALL Star berths due to domination from Hall/Sawchuk/Plante. Also, not that many goalies even played in 5 leagues let alone at an All Star quality level. Again, many of the french Canadian goalies may have played in one extra league due to Quebec senior league (so Hodge or McNeil is a better guess for that reason too)

That's how I came to those previous conclusions. It's a fantastic question.
Thanx shinny.

Yes, and Yes, good job 99Pickles it looks like you've won.

Again very good guesses on the 5-All Star one, feel free to google it now, I'll put the answer on this post in a few hours.

The Answer:
Lorne "Gump" Worsley: Eastern Hockey League (1950); USHL (1951); Western Hockey League(1954); AHL (1964); NHL (1968)

I think I'm only up 3-0, so we need more ques's ! And I can't figure out the 5 All Star one. There were only so many NHL goalies even named to All Star selections (1st or second team) between 1940 and 1970. 60 total births representd by about 25-30 different goalies at most.

So now I will just start looking up those diff goalies and see if it comes up in their bio. Unfortunately, if one of their All Star selections was juniors, it may not show up at all.

This will take several min's....

I guess you were editing while I was typing !!

Gump Worsely...neat record, very unusual. Although a Montreal Canadien, he didn't earn any of his All-Star selections in Quebec Senior as I was speculating...I did my best though !

Good Job nonetheless Pickles, however, I'm still gonna make you work for the last one. (I hope, at least.)

Question 5:
Who was the FIRST best-selling author to play goal in the NHL.

I think the obvious answer is George Plimpton. I suppose someone might pre-date that but I could only make guesses as to who.

correct.

Who scored the winner in quadruple overtime for Pittsburgh versus the Capitals in round one of the 1996 playoffs?

i remember watching that game but going to bed too early because i had school. My friend stayed up all night to watch it. And he was so happy the next day cause he was a big Petr Nedved fan. I made sure to stay up for all of the Penguin/Flyer game in 2000. Ya, so my guess is Nedved.
