Poll Question:
If given the choice between Ryan Smyth or Brendan Morrow for the left wing position of the grinding 4th line on the Canadian 2010 Olympic men's hockey team in Vancouver, who would you choose?

Choices:

Ryan Smyth
Brendan Morrow

That is an excellent and difficult set of choices...

I like what they both bring regarding offensive upside on the checking line, I like what they both bring on the grind side, I like what they both bring regarding excellent leadership....

Why not both, moving one to the right side?

Imagine a checking line with those 2 and maybe a Mike Richards up the middle....

If I had to pick one, I guess I would have to go with Smyth, only because of experience at that level and as my personal choice between them, otherwise either would be more than acceptable.

Of course Morrow is younger, and a prairie boy......

I'll stick with Smyth.

Great poll question!

I really think it's one or the other. I imagine Doan would be on the right wing and maybe Staal of Getzlaf in the middle. So I don't think there is room for both. As much as I hate to say it I think I'd leave Captain Canada behind and go with Morrow because he brings a little bit more sandpaper and is still on the upswing in his career....

...but I'll probably change my mind tomorrow...

toss a coin i think both are about equal when strengths and weaknesses of each are considered. Most countries would wish this to be thier problem.....

The only reason I would take Smyth over Morrow is Smyth's ability on the PP. Even though he has not produced as well on the PP since leaving Edmonton, he is still one of the top two guys in the entire league at reaking havoc in front of the net. Morrow brings better skating and playmaking to the table, but I don't think anyone should be worried about that with the 4th. Line. Both can play PP, PK, or even strength and both play with a lot of grit and heart.

So I would pick Smyth purely on the fact that you could drop him into the PP and make it more effective than with Morrow. Smyth in front of the net gives the bombers on the point that Canada will have a better chance at scoring.

Both are great players in there own respects but id have to choose Symth. He's the type of player golies and defence hate. He's a peast in front of the net, good at screening golies and cuasing problems for the defence and is excellent at tips and re-directs when squating at the top of the crease

I am pretty sure that we are not taking either of them to play the power play....even though my heart says Smyth....Morrow is the more logical choice although i still don't know if there will be room for either of them...when guys like Doan and Getzlaf who are far better players can provide a lot of what these guys do and a lot more...but if so it has to be Morrow.

Getzlaf is pretty much guaranteed a spot unless he plays his way out of one. Doan is on the perimeter though considering what Stevie Y says, his chances are good to be on the team

I think Morrow-Doan-M. Richards would make an awesome 4th line on the 2010 team. Imagine that this is the 4th line? Smyth would be an alternate though if Joe Sakic decides to play that year, Joe would likely be an alternate over Smyth because Stevie Y would not leave out the hometown boy.

Doan's ability and speed is so much better suited for the type of team Stevie Y is planning to build. Smyth though he is a very good player does not have either offensive or defensive abilities of Doan and the "old" man is getting slower and slower these days. Like I've heard someone say, Smyth has a body of a 45 year old considering all the wear and tear he's taken.

Ryan Smyth is a very bad defensive player and for that reason i would pick Brendan Morrow over him
