I didn't want to hijack anyone else's Trivia threads so I decided to post a few questions of my own. Cheers.

1) Who holds the record for most goals in a single Stanley Cup game? How many goals did he score?

2) What was the single highest scoring Stanley Cup game ever? (Who was playing and what was the final score?)

3) Who is the youngest player to ever play in a Stanley Cup game? What was his name?

4) Who is the only goaltender to have his name appear on the Stanley Cup as the captain of a Cup-winning team?

Hey Spade, I think you need to clarify your questions. When you say "Stanley Cup Games", do you mean a the deciding game for the Stanley Cup?? Any game in the final Stanley Cup Series??? Or any Stanley Cup playoff game???

I agree that rross has question #1 wrong, but 18 is the most goals scored in a playoff game. However, it was not a Stanley Cup Final game.

Please clarify your questions.

Good idea Beans. I'll try to be clearer with any other trivia questions I post.

Clarification: Questions 1-3 apply to any Stanley Cup Finals Game (whether it was deciding or otherwise).

The Answers:

1) Frank McGee of the Ottawa Silver Seven scored 14 goals in a single Stanley Cup match against the Dawson City Nuggets in 1905.

2) That game was also the highest scoring Stanley Cup game ever. The Ottawa Silver Seven beat the Dawson City Nuggets 23-2.

3) The youngest player to ever play in a Stanley Cup game is Albert Forrest the goalie for the Dawson City Nuggets. He was 17 years old at the time and will forever retain this record unless the NHL allows 17 year olds to play or the Stanley Cup reverts to a Challenge Cup format.

Even though the score was lopsided in the extreme, the best player on the ice was Forrest. According to the Globe if it hadn't been for Forrest the score would have been more lopsided.

The visiting team was outclassed to-night quite as decisively as the score indicates. In fact had it not been for the fact of Forrest's presence in the Dawson goal the score against them might have been a great deal larger. Ottawa simply skated away from them at the whistle, and continued to pile up the goals with a merciless monotonous regularity which was farcical in the extreme.

Aww Crap. I knew that!! It just happens that I threw out my copy of the Globe from January 17, 1905 a few weeks ago so I didn't have the information!!

Seriously, nice work Spade. It's wicked to see trivia that is not something one can find with a 12 second Google search.

Good try, but the answer is NOT Marcel Dionne.

Hint: the wording of "with two different teams" as opposed to "for two different teams" is, technically speaking, important here

So is this to imply that the guy had 100 points in one season but played for 2 different teams in that time???

If that's the case, I'll throw out Mean Jean Ratelle. I know it's only happened a couple of times where a players have scored 100 points in a season they were traded, and the rest of them happened in the 80's and 90's.

You got it Beans-san!

Sir Jean Ratelle - The coolest player of all time!

6 times in the top 10 point leaders, GREAT contribution to Team Canada in '72, perennial Lady Byng candidate

A total class act!

Well, technically speaking from a literary point of view, I answered your question correctly.

The question should have been, 'Who was the first player to score over a hundred points in a single season playing for two different teams?'

Not that I'm having sour grapes or anything . . . especially over Ratelle, who I wouldn't have thought of without googling for the answer.

Yeah, that last one was a tricky one to word properly, I admit (but your wording also has some potential problems too, Slozo).

My new question is easier to word, but the answer might also surprise a few people.

Who was the first player in NHL history to score 50 or more goals on two different teams?

* regular season, of course
** 50 or more in two different regular seasons, just to be clear

For at least your first guess, try to think of the answer without googling.

Wow, I would think that the 50 goal season was not too popular until into the 70's. For my first guess, which is an off the top of the head guess, I am going with Phil Esposito. Boston and New York??

You got it, Guest. Pierre Larouche.

He has interesting stats. A point a game guy for his career.

And he almost had a another 50 goal season with yet another team, getting 47 for the Rangers in '83-84.

Messier

Edmonton 90 and New York 94

The only other player I can think of without Googling is Neidermayer with Jersey and Anaheim. But then I can't remember if Stevens or Neidermayer was the Cap when the Devils won.

the hip wrote "50 mission cap" about him...

Bill Barilko disappeared that summer
He was on a fishing trip
The last goal he ever scored won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another until 1962 the year he was discovered
I stole this from a hockey card I keep tucked up under
My fifty mission cap I worked it in to look like that

Great song!!!

Ugh, The Hip. 2nd worst piece of Canadiana ever! They would still be playing in bars around Kingston without the CRTC's 40% mandatory content on all radio! As Nickelback would still be in Hanna where they belong.

Alex, I believe that player to be big bad Dave McLlwain.

What about Paul Smyhr ? He was a defenceman who played in the 70's with the California Golden Seals and perhaps a few more teams.

Beans, BINGO! Nice job.

Guest 4988, hmmmm...i like your thinking, never thought of him and only passing on a trivia question i've heard before but maybe the "sometimes y" thing kills your response?

I don't know Alex, the letter "y" is a consonant, so I think he's got to be included. Maybe the question has two answers or perhaps the player only has five letters in his name, making Smyhr the only correct answer ????

Isn't there a rule that every word has to have at least one vowel in it, therefore the "sometimes Y" rule, making Y a vowel a times? I dunno, i don't care either really. Good on you to have this answer (Smyhr). I will forever reword my trivia question to say "Name an NHLer who has....." now that you've enlightened me to Mr. Smyhr!

From usingenglish.com:

Definition:
A;E;I;O;U; & Y are the English vowels, although Y can also behave as a consonant when it is at the beginning of a word.

A vowel is a sound where air coming from the lungs is not blocked by the mouth or throat.

All normal English words contain at least one vowel.
