This year there is alot of great FAs and alot of teams with cap space or teams looking to pick up these players.
Who do you think will make the biggest bang in FAs this year?
I believe LA will. They will sign a premier forward and probably a few other solid forwards and defencemen.

I think the Islanders will sign the Sedins and pick JT, pretty much these moves alone will propell them to the playoff cusp. Built ok, on the back end and they have Weight for veteran presence. I don't think there goalie situation is bad if they can hang on the MacDonald for a backup.
If they dont get the Sedins I still feel this team is going to make the biggest push to sign veteran forwards to groom JT, or a legitimate scoring forward, on the offchance they pick Hedman. |

I agree LA will be making a lot of moves this off season. However, they'll be making some of the same moves TB made last year (i.e. Ryan Malone type players). When it comes to making the "biggest splash" and getting the big name players, Toronto, Vancouver, New York (R), Edmonton and the Stars will be making a lot of moves.
Toronto has a lot of cap space to play with and have shown strong interest in hometown kid Mike Cammelleri, also, the Sedins have already stated their terms, and right now, Vancouver and Toronto are the front runners (less years though). Throw in the fact that the "Monster" Gustavsson has been spending a lot of time in T.O. and a lot of time on local sports shows.
Vancouver is looking to go further then they did last year...gotta keep the fans happy of course! And pay no attention to the Roberto Luongo to Toronto rumours, not happening!
The Rangers...they keep learning the hard way, by spending o ton of money, on over the hill players, you won't win the cup. However, look for them to do it again...
What to say about the Edmonton Oilers? Well, with a damn good looking coaching staff, and Quinn showing he can coach youth, this should be a promising year in Oil Country. Throw in the swirling rumours of Kovalchuk or Heatley dawning the Blue and Orange, and the need for a new goalie, EDM should be busy this summer.
Dallas, well, the Hull as GM experiment is done, new management and a new coach could turn the team around. However, look for them to ship the experience out and bring in some youth.

I dont believe that the sedins can propel a team to the cup. They got no leadership. They provide a strong backbone but you need the players around them to create a strong team. Look for JT to be a good rookie, but we gotta remember hes only a rookie. He will be a bust if the team needs him to be one of the major contributors in his rookie year. He still needs time to develop. Dont look for Islanders to make the playoffs next year.

Whooo horsey..... Never said they would be challenging for the cup. Just saying with the Sedins and JT you have 6-7 name players on forward and 3-4 good signed d-men. DiPietro is a solid goalie, when healthy and I thought Joey MacDonald proved he could handle starting goalie when needed. If neither of these players fits there are going to be a tonne of free agents on the market this off season and a tonne of offers for the #1 position.
I'm just saying this could be the team to watch this offseason. |
