I agree with the lindstrom choice 3 years ago Maybe Chara, But in no way is Mike Green the best defenseman in the league. (this comes from the guy who smells Mike Greens Jock Strap ) Mike Green is the best offensivley but because his hitting abillity is no where near Webers and his shot is worse Weber is the better defenseman. I still hope Mike Green wins the Norris this year.

Apparently doesn't think Subban respects the older players in the league. I guess Subban talks some trash and Richards doesn't think rookies should be doing so? Something along those lines i think..... |

You do realize that this poll was made three years ago, and one year before Doughty was in the NHL.

Posted - 06/14/2010 : 06:57:03 Dion Phaneuf?? That's funny.
Even the players agree he is highly overrated. In fact, this story says that of the 272 NHL players polled, Phaneuf was the most overrated player by a landslide. He received 21% of the vote and the next closest player(Wade Redden) got 7% of the vote.
Dion Phaneuf can hit and has a decent shot. Outside of that, he's really not that good at anything.
Ultimately, he is Sheldon Souray with a bit more mobility.

Posted - 06/04/2010 : 19:03:58 My All-Time Favorite is Raymond Bourque. (My all-time favorite player, of any position)
Current top 5 D-men in the NHL:
1. Nicklas Lidstrom 2. Scott Neidermayer 3. Chris Pronger 4. Zdeno Chara
The fifth spot, could be any of:
Duncan Keith, Rob Blake or Brian Rafalski
Those are my personal top 4 (of overall skill, over a period of atleast 3 years) and my #5 tie.

Posted - 02/26/2008 : 07:28:55 Lidstrom by a fair margin, although Pronger is more effective physically (the non-stats component).
Please though - for the sake of validity for this poll - take down Kaberle's name and the 101 retarded Leafs fans who voted for him. It's a ridiculous joke to have him on the list, and shames every thinking Leaf fan out there. Replace him with Rafalski or Redden please.

Posted - 10/21/2007 : 07:15:32 Lidstrom is still the best defenceman in the league. His leadership skills along with his playing ability, makes him the perfect defenceman for any team in the NHL.

Posted - 10/20/2007 : 11:41:38 phaneuf?? umm definately not -calgary appears unable to rely on defense at all this year with him...im not sure he should be on this list yet -as for lidstrom, career numbers excellent yes but best right now? possibly...or redden |

Posted - 10/20/2007 : 11:05:15 How is Souray on that list? He wouldn't be top 10. save some embarasment and plug Bouwmeester in. |
leafsfan_101 |
Posted - 10/20/2007 : 09:18:24 Lidstrom has to be considered the best. He has so many dimensions that every night it is lik facing a new defenseman. he blocks shots, scores goals, can handle the puck and can play a physical game when he wants to. He gets my vote. |
Guest6798 |
Posted - 10/20/2007 : 07:18:25 It is absolutely embarassing that Souray is even on this list. He's easily one of the worst "defensive" defencemen in the whole league. A complete pilon in his own end.
He's got a hard shot. I'll give him that. |
Guest4724 |
Posted - 10/20/2007 : 06:30:10 Lidstrom by far no one else is in his league right now there is a lot of good young defenceman including phanuef but he isnt there yet remember brewer. Norstrom good malliky redden phillips etc |

There is no way Anton Volchenkov should be in the same list as players like Lidstrom, Pronger and Niedermayer. |

Posted - 10/18/2007 : 21:18:44 With Neidermayer not playing right now, the only guy that is even close to Lidstrom is Pronger, and he's not even that close.
Think about this, there are only three players with the same or more Norris Trophies than Lidstrom. Being in the company of Harvey, Bourque, and Orr is pretty special. He's won it 6 out of the last 7 years it has been awarded and had been nominated 8 of the last 9 seasons. That means he is voted as one of the top 3 defensemen for almost a decade.
Looking at Pronger, Neidermayer and Lidstrom, the unwritten three best d-men in the past 5 seasons, the numbers are not even close.
Lidstrom - 401games - 66 goals -235 assists - 301 points +133 Pronger - 309 games - 47 goals - 220 assosts - 267 points +51 Neidermayer - 399 games - 64 goals - 194 assists - 257 points + 69
Even this year, Lidstrom has 5 points in 5 games and is +5 while averaging the 3rd most minutes in the league.
To me that shows no signs that he can't keep up with the league. He will retire when he feels like it, which may be soon. But he could play into his 40's and still be effective.
Where's Phaneuf in this?? Not even in the same ball park. With all due respect, if you think Phaneuf has a defensive edge on Lidstrom, you must think that Defense is hitting. That is about the only thing that Phaneuf has on Lidstrom.
Phaneuf will be lucky if he ever gets to Lidstrom's level.
If you are under the age of 15, please do some research before you make a post about anything pre-1997. |

Posted - 10/18/2007 : 20:07:04 Nick Lidstrom is just the best ACTIVE player playing, hes probably one of the best defense that ever played the game ( except maybe orr and bourque, as much of a wings fan i am they were good D in their days)
