I remember reading (a loooooong time ago) when 10 members of the site had an All-Time Fantasy draft that I thought was pretty cool, so I thought we could have another (seeing this was around 4 years ago). I was wondering if maybe Beans could organise it (as he did last time).

If you want any part, just post it!

Totally agree Utemin, but I guess I'm biased!

Also, I think I got a steal of a pick with Malkin @ 31.

Al Albour, though gets honors of steal of the draft. Coaches 1 game. Just ONE game. And Alex happens to be the one that remembers and picks him.

Nice job Alex.

Crap, no one took Markov, I totally would have taded Regehr for him!

I wouldn't have picked Bobby Ryan, Alex.

Enstrom was taken, I could have sworn that someone took Smyth otherwise I would have taken him!

Bring back the Jets!
Alex116 Posted - 03/28/2011 : 08:58:06
BTW, here are some who i though may have gone.....

R. Smyth - Already mentioned
S. Gagne - past Team Canada rep (mighta made 2010 if not injured)
P. Sharp - under rated, kinda hidden in Chi behind Kane & Toews
M. Straka - consistent for many years, gold medal Nagano
T. Plekanec - Very good two way center, Pasty woulda taken him
D. Brown - Maybe a year or two away from being in a draft like this but this guy would look good on any of our 3rd or 4th lines
J. Tavares - Maybe a little too young yet, but having a really good year that's prob going unnoticed by most.
B. Ryan - A1 woulda prob taken him if i'd let him get Perry
Dmen - Letang, Staal, Enstrom, Burns, Markov, Wesley, Myers, Brewer
Alex116 Posted - 03/28/2011 : 08:44:24
Prob not fair for me to say until i see guys line combos because i wanted Smyth badly but couldn't fit him in where he'd belong. Maybe everyone else felt the same way?

I'll comment further once line combos are out.

there were lots of guys not taken for sure - my list of potentials is still quite large...

but as you said Alex, they just didn't fit position-wise or line/role wise into the team when I was drafting...
polishexpress Posted - 03/27/2011 : 21:14:21
I was thinking about Smyth, but I preferred Keith Primeau.
Alex116 Posted - 03/27/2011 : 19:39:32
I'm sure there's a bunch of guys who didn't get picked that should have. One glaring miss as far as i'm concerned is that no one picked Ryan Smyth (at least i don't think he went?)!!!!

I was going to take him with a late pick but he didn't really fit into the line combos i was making. I had Madden pegged as my last pick for quite some time and needed him on my 4th line / pk.

Overall i'm very happy with my squad but have to say that i'd have taken Smyth over many picks i saw made by others, but that's just me.

I just want to remind you all of how the winner will be decided:

1. We will have 1-on-1 showdowns between: Canucks Man(1)-Semin Rules(8), Polish Express(2)-Alex(7), Awesome One(3)-DoubleChamp(6), Nuxfan(4)-Toxxik(5)

2. Then the top and bottom teams and the middle teams will have 1-on-1 showdowns.

3. The 2 remaining teams will go 1-on-1.

4. The winner is crowned!

Remember: These matchups will be decided with user polls.

A1.....Gaborik! I was wondering when someone would finally take him! I was tempted a couple times but seeing as his injury history has killed me in pools a couple of times, i've kinda come to hate the guy!

Sure, but i'd all but guarantee you that if we made it "as players have performed since the lockout" as you suggest, you wouldn't have Ovie, Malkin, Zett, etc ALL on your roster. Simply wouldn't have happened.
polishexpress Posted - 03/08/2011 : 15:50:42
I'm glad its post lockout too!

Then you take Team Alex or Nuxfan or AO, and you throw in jagr, forsberg, sakic, lemieux and my guys look like average joes.

I'm hoping in voting that overall team balance will garner votes, because in terms of top-end skill, I might not cut it on offense, though I do have Ovie, Malkin and Zets!
Alex116 Posted - 03/08/2011 : 15:01:26
Have to say, i'm glad we're doing post lockout. I looked through those teams and if i were voting, i'd have had to draw straws to pick a winner! Far too many generations / era's of hockey involved to really figure out which was best!

I'm not picking my goalie yet for the same reason as Alex.

However, I'm really trying to pride my team on stellar forwards and notable d-men.

PE, you are correct on that - and I'm not just saying that because its mine .

I thought about going the Alex route as well (get one good one early, get another later), but then thought it might be good to get 2 very good ones early, and not worry about them anymore. There are far more good forwards than there are good goalies since the lockout.

We'll see which strategy works best.

I picked up Fleury because I thought it would be a useful argument to say I have one of the best, if not the best goaltending out of all the teams.I think the Joseph/Hasek combo is the best out them all, but I think I'm tied for 2nd or 3rd, depending on personal opinions, and how much weight you give to me having the best goaltender(at least statistically) in history.

None of course, can be better than my tandem of Brodeur-Fleury

Exactly what i've been thinking. There are at least 3 or 4 who will still look good on my roster therefore i won't be taking one till my last pick (most likely). I've used this same strategy in hockey pools over the years. IF you don't get one of the top ones (in pools which you are required to carry one goalie), no sense wasting an early pick on a guy who'll be there later.

Yo Semin....you ever gonna pick a dman??? Lol, i thought for sure you'd take 2 on this last go around with your back to backs! You've def got some fire power up front, but at this rate your gonna have SOB in your top 2 pairing!

Maybe that's your plan. I mean, the love for that guy around here will certainly get you some votes!
polishexpress Posted - 03/03/2011 : 10:56:58
Agree with your points Mario.

I think the votes will be really dependent on how young the memories of those who vote are.

Sadly, I am too young to remember much of the greats like Mario. On the other hand, some players, like Sakic, are the guys that made me love the game of hockey. His performance in game 7 of the 2001 playoffs (the year Bourque finally won), or Forsberg dominating in 03, where Patrick Roy let something like 7 goals in game 7 vs Detroit in the conference finals are my favourite hockey moments.

Most of the players on my team don't come near Sakic, Forsberg, et al, in that category, or at least not yet, and like you said Mario, that might be the vote swayer.
Mario 66 Posted - 03/03/2011 : 10:09:14
AO, if you read again I said your barely trailing. What Lemieux gives you in an additional push towards the Front Sakic & Jagr basically push you back closer to the pack and your talking to a guy who grew up idolizing Lemieux. Stamkos Green Backstrom & even Getzlaf are great right now but overall could be relatively insignificant as you mentioned this draft style is based upon guys in their prime. None of the above has yet to reach their prime and hopefully not any could get constant injuries and then there is never a prime to speak of. Ryan Miller compared to Hasek do you really want to argue that? Based upon guys who we know what there primes have been your Lemieux, Robaltaille Niewendyk and Roberts fall short of Sakic Hull Hasek Chelios Roenick Heatley Gonchar and even Cujo. You made the rules of judgement in their prime and I am never one to assume anything as you know how that can turn out. You can willingly disagree but based upon the rules in play half of your teams is will they continue this stellar play or will they sadly get injured and never become as great as we thought. Where as NuxFan is already WOW we remember what they did and how great they where.

Lemieux owns Gretzky

HI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,

seriously, I've got:

Lemieux, Stamkos, Robataille, Nieuwendyk, Roberts, Sedin, Sedin, Getzlaf, Backstrom, Keith, Green, Boyle and Miller!

I say I'm in that frontrunner group!

That would have been a lot more respected last year Lemieux is definatley going to give your team a boost.

Yup, voting (I hope!) will be open, we'll just count on honesty of participants not to vote when their team is involved!

Been following this with interest and hope my vote will count come the time.

I would say Nuxfan & Alex are the front runners with AO barely trailing. CM is close but i would still throw him in 4th for the time being. Obviously, my opinion is insignificant however; just from browsing that is what I see and i think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who could argue that Nuxfan & Alex are not the front runners.

BOL with the remaining picks

Lemieux owns Gretzky
polishexpress Posted - 03/01/2011 : 12:27:44
Who do you think are the three front runners?(pick me pick me!)

Not counting myself, I think that Alex, nuxfan, and canucks-man are the front runners.
Mario 66 Posted - 03/01/2011 : 11:19:08
Looking at the first hundred and with 7+ picks to go for each guy this appears to be a 3 man race. Interesting to see over the course of the final picks which individual gives themselves a slight edge.

Lemieux owns Gretzky

I'm pretty happy with Brad Richards at such a low pick! I'm surprised nobody took him given all the trade rumours and speculation regarding him!

I still can't believe that Lucic was taken by Toxxik before I had a chance to snag him!!
