I remember reading (a loooooong time ago) when 10 members of the site had an All-Time Fantasy draft that I thought was pretty cool, so I thought we could have another (seeing this was around 4 years ago). I was wondering if maybe Beans could organise it (as he did last time).
If you want any part, just post it!
There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs".

This is pretty much the format: 10 teams that pick the NHL team (current or defunct) of their choice 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, 2 goalies per team 1 coach, 1 GM per team drafting goes from 1-10, 10-1, etc.

Oh man that was sooo long ago! The good ol days, when PUH was such a simpler time
that was a hell of a good time though, I'd be in for another round ! Not so sure we would need to draft coaches or gm's though. But that's just my opinion. Other than that I'm so down ! |

For those of us who weren't around back then, you might wanna explain it a little better? I don't understand the pool as you've outlined it to be honest..... |

Alex if I understand correctly you take turns drafting the best players of all time. Once everyone has a team everybody else votes on who's team is best.
You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take Wayne Gretzky |

Thanks anyway, but i think i'll pass. I can't stand the "who's better, Gretzky or Orr" so comparing my team with Doug Harvey to yours with Brad Park or Dennis Potvin is going to be far too debatable for me.
I'll stand aside and give my honest opinion when the time comes, but it's not much interest for me to actually pick one of these.

Mr. Boogedy, Doublechamp, I 'll put you on the waiting list, because there is a few more guys that I want in (beans, slozo, Nuxfan, Canucks man, pasty, and I'd kind of like to see monkey boy pick Shane o'brien ahead of Gretzky !)

I'm gonna have to pass, I don't have enough hockey-throughout-time knowledge to draft effectively.

I'm more than willing to offer my opinion, but to judge something like this would be a little unfair don't you think? I mean, i'd prefer to see it put up as a poll, only is there any way to make it only members are able to vote??? |

I am out. It was kinda fun the last time, but let's be honest, when people were picking guys like Iginla over guys like Cam Neely it became a joke really fast. Respect to all the PUH people, but an All Time team would not be fun as there are not enough older folks to make it legit.
If you were to make say the best of the last 10 years or the best since the lock out I think it would be better and I might be in for something like that.
For now, I am out. |

If I could make a suggestion, go with no more than 8 guys. Then, you could put guys head to head in a poll with the winner after a week going on to the next round finally going down to a final winning team.

if you're going to draft for post-lockout only, I could probably do that competently enough (I don't have a good grasp of players before 1985...) - can I move from the judges chair to contestant?

If it's post lockout, i'll play. My whole problem with it was the old guys who most never saw play. Like i said, it's very difficult for a lot of people to compare Doug Harvey to Dennis Potvin if you didn't see them both play. Or even worse, Harvey to a current guy like Pronger?
Anyway, i'll do it if you're still looking for guys..... |

So what is exactly the point of this? Everyone picks a team, then picks the best players from that NHL club (from the last 10 or twenty years or whatever), and then fields an all-star team of that era for that NHL club. Then what?
Chatter about which team would beat which team? Someone arbitrarily chooses which team they think would beat which team?
Because seriously, in the reality of the game . . . if we were all to pick the winning team on paper for the Stanley Cup each year . . . very few would be right.
To me, it just sounds a bit silly. Sorry, but that's just how it comes off to me . . . who can brag more about their favourite NHL club's players. (I am in a crappy mood, and feel like smacking an ice-cream cone out of a kid's hands. I mean, what are you doing walking around in the middle of winter with an ice-cream cone anyways?!?)

Sorry guys, i think i'm confused still / again. Is this like Slozo said, where we pick a team and then pick players from THAT team? I thought it was more an all star type team? Correct me if i'm wrong though. If by picking TBay A1, you now just pick post lockout Lightning guys, then i get it. Richards, St. Louis, Stammer, Lecavalier, etc will look pretty good. Anyway, if that's what it is, gimme Detroit, i'll leave the nux for Nuxfan and Canucksman to fight over
Otherwise, please try again to explain this to this brain dead user! |

No the team doesn't really mean anything it's just for voting. You would vote between the Oilers and Lightning instead of between Beans and awesome one. You still are just picking the best players. If you are still confused go into the hockey history section and read the G.O.A.T. draft

Jeepers Slozo, are you gonna go around and knock the ice cream off little kids' cones after this?
I for one, as an Oilers fan, can certainly use the distraction, let the games begin!
I am interested to see who sees who as all-star level players in this time frame with the various ages of contestants. I'm guessing we have a large variance from the young Awesome One to the ancient, yet wise, Beans.
PS. for those who kinda agree with my friend Slozo, it's easy, don't read the post!! |

Hello everyone who is acting negatively towards this exercise/game. I remind you guys to take a read of the forum rules - namely the part that talks about if something doesn't interest you then then leave it alone and let others be. Obviously it's of interest to many and that's not a bad thing. Moderators take note please. |

Yet again, FER comes up with quote of the year material!
Okay, so i get it now. I looked back at the GOAT thread but i didn't see anywhere where anyone won or a poll was conducted? Was that elsewhere?
I can say one thing for sure, it would be VERY hard to pick the best with players from all era's selected so i think keeping it more recent (post lockout) is wise!
Not sure how long it'll take but i'm away as of Sunday night for a week so we gotta get this going? Or i'll get someone to finish it off for me if need be?
BTW, now that i understand it, i refuse to use the Detroit Red Wings to cheer for. Seeing as Canucksman has pulled rank (apparently time is more important than # of posts ) and i don't wanna cheer for any competition, can i please be refered to as the California Golden Seals? |

Nice. I'll be the Atlanta Flames!
So to be clear - I can choose any player from any team, post lockout?
How many players? I'm assuming 4 full forward lines, 3 full d-lines, and 2 goalies? More, less?
Timeframe - when do they get posted? |
