           	| a) select your NHL standings for the upcoming season(include points if you want, but it doesnt matter) b) using these standings, predict outcomes of playoff match-ups, all the up to the finals.
c)whoever's predictions are deemed most accurate,(by me), will win a fabulous prize
 d)that is all

Let's not forget that those Conference Finalists who were scrambling to make the playoffs and the difference between in and out was literally 1 point.

Those same Conference finalists were just 5 points ahead of ATL who were a horrible team last season.

Those Conference Finalists also played in a different stratosphere with the hotest goalie on the planet to eek into those Conference Finals.

Montreal is an average, scrambling for 8th place kind of team at best and as much of a Cary Price fan that I am, there is still a huge question mark in net. Not to mention their #1 defenseman is injured and the team is still overall very small.

Montreal in 13th is not that big of a stretch at all. Although, if Montreal finishes in 13th, TO will be a lock at 15th in the East!!

this team that scrambled to 8th last year were also missing Cammalleri , Gionta , Gomez , Markov for signifigant amounts of time last year, Halak after winning back to back games in Philly was nothing more than average for the final 10 games of the season (to the point where the controversy came back maybe price would start the playoffs) this team that scrambled to place 8th last year also was its first full year playing together,, aswell as this team has an improved top six this year plus more depth if players don't get the job done or get hurt, I personnaly think we have a better bottom 6 this year aswell,, along with good depth in the minors,, and our D is deeper and should be improved with Subban,, and Henry, Picard both pushing hard for roster spots give the habs good dpeth,, our only question mark is between the pipes.. Oh and our number one D is hurt but is also Skating in full practice with the team so it shouldn't be long,, these reports he is out untill X mas are wrong,, I played hockey last week on the habs rink and they practiced after Markov looks strong and is in contact practices... this team should be aiming for a 7th place finish in my opinion and yes it will probably come down to the last week of play but this team will be there

                      | With all due respect Pasty. Blah, blah, blah.
You are talking about issues that all team face from one time to another. Maybe not to that degree, maybe to a more significant degree.

End of the day, there will be injuries, chemistry issues, what ever else with most every team in the NHL. End of the day, one must look at the talent.

When I look at the Montreal team, there is 3-4 forwards that have big league skill and maybe 3 defensemen. Outside of that, the team is full of marginal NHL players or guys still developing.

They are not as deep or talents than many of the other teams in the East this season. They finished 19th in the NHL overall last season and there really didn't do anything to make improvements over that. In fact, some would say they stepped backwards.

                      | As I said, Montreal is not the only team that had to overcome injuries to key players. The key is depth, to which Montreal is very limited.

Not sure how accurate either of them are, but both show the same thing. The one with the entire league will show you that Montreal was 9th in the NHL in man games missed. Ahead of them where Edmonton, Minnesota, Vancouver, Carolina, Detroit, Philadelphia, Colorado, New York Islanders, and Columbus.

these are not just man games missed ,, This is Cammalleri Gionta Gomez and Markov,,, aside from Plekanec thats all of our gamebreakers,, if price plays how he did last year (913 sv %) and Dustin Boyd does what Dominic Moore did (not a very big if) this team is better than is was last year,, and if Eller scores 35 points and Boyd Breaks out into a solid defensive forward with some upside offensivly and Lapierr has a bounce back year and Subban just continues from where he left off in the playoffs,, well oops this team can play with the best in the conference,,, but thats ok underestimate the habs,,,
they will be there you will see

                      | hey Patsy, I counted 7 "if"'s in your post. That about sums Beans argument up . I too think MTL will be on the bubble this year, and a lot will depend on how healthy they can stay, how well Price can play, and whether or not some of their young players can step up. We'll see.
As for injuries, I have to agree with Patsy here. There are "injuries", and then there are "INJURIES". Man games lost only tells part of the story, a teams success will depend on which men are lost, and for how long. Beans, given EDM's woes last year - which IMO corresponded heavily with the long term losses of Hemsky, Khabibulin, and Souray, amongst others - I'm surprised you don't agree.

The Canucks had a lot of lost man games last year, but with the exception of Daniel Sedin for 6 weeks, most of the men lost were marginal players (Demitra, Hansen, Johnson, Bernier, Rypien) or players where we had sufficient depth to fill in from farm (Mitchell, Bieksa). Had the Canucks lost Daniel, Kesler, Luongo, and Erhoff instead, it would have been a much different season.

The fact that MTL did well despite longish injuries to very key players is pretty startling.

                      | yeah 7 ifs.... but all 7 are if`s that all odds are in the habs favor,,, i mean its not a big if at all that Dustin Boyd fills the Glen Metropolite role... With the playoffs Lapierre had it is not a big if at all that he regains his form from 2 years ago ,,, it is not a big strecth to hope for 35 points from a player who lead his AHL team in scoring last year as a rookie, all of things are more highly probable than ifs!
