If you had to start a pool right now for the next season. +/- don't count, only points...who would you pick. who would be your 6 attackers, 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies, and what would be your team?

If i had to pick right now, probably something like...

Forwards:
1. Ovechkin
2. Crosby
3. Backstrom
4. Malkin
5. Thornton
6. a Sedin (either or)

Defense:
1. Mike Green
2. Duncan Keith
3. Drew Doughty
4. Sergei Gonchar

Goalies:
1. Martin Brodeur
2. Roberto Luongo

Team...Washington
***************

When it actually comes time to pick pools next fall though, the playoffs & off season moves will play big time into the equation. If San Jose goes out in the 1st round again, there could be big time chances in SJ which might make me a bit more hesitant to take Thornton, instead go with someone like Patrick Kane or Steven Stamkos or Ilya Kovalchuk (although probably not if he remains in NJ).

Or lets say the Penguins don't resign Sergei Gonchar, he might drop down a bit, etc.
If the goaltending fails for Washington or Chicago in the playoffs & they are forced to go out & get a #1, that would factor in, etc.

First off, let's use hockey terminology: they are called forwards.

So this year's top 6 was H.Sedin, Crosby, Ovechkin, Backstrom, Stamkos and St.Louis. Crosby, Ovechkin and probably Backstrom are sure to be up there again next year, after that, all bets are off as we saw surprises Henrik, Stamkos and even St.Louis has to be considered a surprise in the top 6.

My guess:

Forwards
Crosby, Ovechkin, Backstrom, Malkin, M.Richards, Getzlaf

Defence
Green, Keith, Markov, Boyle

And assuming one gets points for wins and shutouts (as opposed to goals and assists) for the Goalies:
Kiprusoff
Luongo

Forwards:

Crosby, Ovechkin, Backstrom, Malkin, Stamkos, Kovalchuk

Defensemen:

Keith, Green, Myers, Doughty

Goalies:

Brodeur, Bryzgalov

Both goalies played over 4,000 minutes (Brodeur was 59 sec away from 4,500 mins) last season so should be good for some points.

Stamkos could be a crap-shoot seem as Martin St. Louis might not be there next year as it is rumored he asked for a trade today. I still believe Stamkos is the real deal though.

When Hell freezes over, I'll play hockey there too.
