With the Hawks mathcing Hammer's offer sheet contract from the Sharks, it is quite obvious that the Sharks are on the market to solidify the blue line that has lost Rob Blake. Who are some viable options....Also we might want to note that they are after versatile, agile, d-men and not the big shutdown defender type but then again size is hard to ignore
Kaberle Bieksa Schubert Schenn Wisnieski (offer sheet) Pothier S Morrisson Krajicek Lilja Ranger (offer sheet) Staal (offer sheet) Franson (offer sheet) Liles

If I were DW this is what I would do. Sign Lilja Offer Staal or Wisnewski
Trade's
To COL Petrecki Mitchell
To SJ Liles
To TOR Setoguchi 2nd and 4h round pick
To SJ Schenn or Beauchimen
And I would do this
To CHI Doherty Zalewski 1st round pick
To SJ Hjalmarsson 3rd round pick
All of these trades seem even for both sides but the last one is up there because I would try that if I were GM.The offers and signings are good the most possible trade is the first one COL/SJ.

Marc Staal is an interesting one, he is similar to Ryan in that he has no arbitration rights as an RFA, so NYR can't protect his rights with anything. Although NYR is up against the cap (4M left to sign 2 players), if an offer sheet came in for Staal at the same as Hjalmarsson I think they would match it without delay. They have been talking about eating Redden's contract in the minors, which would free up more than enough room.
Still, I'd like to see someone take a run at him, he's a capable defenceman with lots of upside.

Interesting moves..... I think the Setoguchi one, most leaf fans would take in a heartbeat if it was for Beauchemin? Maybe not Schenn as he still has some developing to do and may yet be a top2 guy? Beauchemin is not bad, but replaceable IMO.
Don't really know anything about the two guys in the Chi deal (Doherty / Zalewski?) so can't comment there but after the offer sheet was matched, i doubt these two make a trade!
Liles is an okey dman and that trade could work i suppose, albeit, it's not really all that significant of a trade to comment on. |

Zalewski is a prospect who is doing great in the AHL and is a n RFA this year.Doherty is the Sharks best prospect a defenseman who is 18 and is 6'9''.Chicago might do that.Because I dont hink SJ is done with Hjalmarsson and Chicago yet.

Here are a few forwards the Sharks were targeting.
Lee Stempniak,Possible if Seto is traded
Owen Nolan,Calgary has done it bring back former players
Mike Modano,Veteran Leadership
Raffi Torres,He is the most likely to go to SJ if Clowe is traded
Arron Asham,Can replace Manny

If I were Doug Wilson I would go after Andy Sutton. He is a great shot blocker and an amazing open ice hitter. If he could get him for around 3 mil I think it would be a great signing.
You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take Wayne Gretzky |

He's their "best prospect? Is that YOUR opinion? It certainly isn't the opinion of "hockeyfutures.com" as they have him ranked as the Sharks #13 prospect and 5th ranked Dman. Granted Demers is one of the guys ahead of him so that'd make him 4th i suppose?

Dude do you just put put 2 teams assets in a hat and draw names?
Edler is a good defenceman but not worth Setoguchi AND a high draft pick. |

That is way to much for Edler maybe a prospect and a late round pick but Edler is not worth more than Kaberle.

Joe, you are off your rocker. Edler is about as untouchable as the Sedins in Vancouver, and with good reason. |

Well besides Thornton,Marleau and Heatley who would you want for Alexander Edler.Seto 1st round pick,Clowe,Pavelski.
Edler for Vlasic and a pick,I would do that.

Untouchable means untouchable. I cannot think of a trade right now involving Edler that would make any sense for the Canucks (both from a player mix position and a cap position), or for the team trying to acquire him. I value Edler much higher than Vlasic, and SJ picks are not worth much as long as they keep finishing in the top-2 during the regular season.
Edler is just coming off his "breakout time", and during the playoffs emerged as the type of player that the Canucks hoped he would blossom into - hard hitting, scoring, lots of minutes. He is signed to an (IMO) very cap-friendly 3.25 for the next 3 years, and if he continues next year like he played in the playoffs, he'll be a steal at that price for those remaining 3 years. Further, he provides a hedge in the event that they cannot re-sign Erhoff. Why on earth would they trade him now?
On the other hand, Bieksa is earning 500K more, and is not as good a dman, and is a UFA next year. Gillis knows which one is getting the boot.

I always wanted Satan on my team as well. |

The Sharks were reportedly trying to aqquire Luke Schenn from Toronton who or what do you think Burke would want to trade Schenn to San Jose.I would try a blockbuster trade like this.
To TOR Setoguchi Petrecki Zalewski 1st round pick 2nd round pick Greiss Maybe another prospect or pick
To SJ Gustavsson Schenn Beauchimen Gunnarsson
Too much or not enough

Yuo really need to stop with these trades that are ridiculously in favour of the sharks. I know we are all guilty of wanting the best deal for our team but some of the proposals you have put forth are bordering on insane. |

Yes I agree with you Joe will probably end up in Toronto and I was just saying some of the players involved could be Kaberle,Gunnarsson,Beauchimen,Schenn and Gustavsson. If I were Doug Wilson I would give Heatley to the leafs for Bozak and a pick.As a Sharks fan I didnt enjoy it with Heatley there.

And everyone says my trades can be crazy. Not to be a critic or anything but too much for Modano,But I like the Pietrangolo,Briere and Staal idea.It would be great if the Sharks could pick up Afinogenov I dont believe they have a Russian on their NHL roster.
