Price is RFA and is not signed yet, you guys think some team will try to bite the Habs by offering an Offer Sheet to him. For sure Habs will have to match but most likely at a higher price than Habs want.

So this discussion is about which team could send an offer sheet to Price...

Montreal has 4.7mil in cap space with 20 players signed. That is tight against the cap.

teams that could offer him are...

1-Florida (Last year of Vokoun in FLA, he will be traded and Carey could be the franchise goalie they need, lot of cap space, less pressure for Carey, in fact I dont know why Dave Tallon dont try it already.)

2-Ottawa (Leclaire and Elliot are not bad and that's it, I think they have already a better team than last year with Gonchar but with Price, they would be scary)

3-Philadelphia (The best option for them but no cap space, sorry.)

4- New Jersey (Not sure about that one but Brodeur will retire someday, and could be a great if not the greatest teacher for Carey and NJ would a have a stud between the pipe for 2 next decades again.

5-San Jose(As for San Jose, I don't know if they'll be happy with a Greiss-Nittymaki combo.

The problem with Price is, how do you value him? He had one good 20 game stretch in his rookie year and hasn't been the same since.

So, if you're a team that is not MTL, what do you offer to get Price?

I really dont think 1.33 for three years is going to do it, but you can always hope. I think he gets at least 2mill per season.

I wouldn't say 4.7 million left with 20 players signed is 'tight against the cap'

The Florida Panthers have Tomas Vokoun currently. Who is a true #1 goaltender in the NHL.

They also have a highly touted goalie prospect in Jacob Markstrom in the farm system. Will he be NHL ready in 2 years? I'm not sure. But, by then, it be worth trying out.

If I were Price, I would not take a deal any longer than 2 years at 1.33 per year. At that price, I'd want a short deal, then prove myself for 2 years, and then cash in after that.

If MTL offers a 3 year deal at 3M per (unlikely), then I probably take that. There is little upside on locking in for 3 years at a lower rate for Price.

That could be why teams haven't taken a flier on Price yet - you want to do so, but what could you reasonably offer that MTL would not match, that would also make sense for you as an acquiring team?

With no CBA in place after 2011-2012 I can't see either side looking long term here.

Reports out of Montreal say Price and his agent have agreed to politely disagree on the contract to sign him to the club. I believe Price is looking for a short term deal while Montreal is looking longer term. How much do you think he looking for? Not necessarly what you think he is worth.

I will bet you that both sides have essentially agreed on a dollar figure, but that MTL wants to lock him in for a longer period of time to maximize value. Meanwhile, Price wants to lock in for a shorter time, so that if he does well he can sign a more lucrative contract sooner.

His next contract is his "prove that you can do it" contract, and it sounds like the Habs want to extend that more than 1 or 2 years.

I am loving every minute of this . . . the Great Carey Price trying to squeeze out better terms from the Canadiens, who actually want to saddle themselves with a longer contract.

It's delicious to watch as a Leafs fan.

Carey Price signs for two years at 5.5 mil. I new he would be asking for more than 2 million. He gets 2.75 per year. Still not a bad deal for Montreal.

What do you want to bet??

Not only do I think Cary Price will bounce back this season, I think the Canadiens will be a playoff team.

What's the wager??

I wonder if Deaner is still willing to bet with you Beans, if the first 20 games are any indication i think you may just have won this one!
