Look SSP, you are crazy putting the Oilers on that list.
What, are they just your little brother's favorite team or something?
There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs". |

Okay, on a more serious note, it'll be Tampa Bay (Yes, a big sleeper ) over Vancouver. The Lightning have a very good team: Stamkos, St Louis, Lecavalier, Gagne, Malone, Downie, Connolly is coming up in the future, Hedman, Ohlund, Ranger, Ellis.
I think they have got what it takes.

It's real early, but I don't think Washington is going anywhere, no proven goaltender.........as for who looks good, the Bruins look real good, and it looks like Savard may be getting healthier, they could be for real |

I also agree with ToXXiK, the Bruins should be a serious contender in the east. Let me paint a picture, East: Final four in the east is Washington, Pittsburgh, Tampa and Boston. Tampa over Washington in 7(Hey, Montreal did it ), Pittsburgh over Boston in 6, and then Stamkos outguns Crosby as the Lightning punch their ticket to the finals.
West: Final four in the west is San Jose, Vancouver, Detroit, and Chicago. Detroit over San Jose in 7(The Sharks won't reach the semis again), Vancouver over Chicago in 6(FINALLY ), and then Vancouver will prevail over Detroit.
Finals: Tampa takes it in 5 off of a Stamkos beauty in OT.

I agree with "Awesome One." The Oilers should not be on this list. I'm an Oiler fan, but they are going to have a hard time making the playoffs, let alone win the cup.
Putting them on this list invites quacks, so if you want legitimate poll results, you won't get it by including a team which finished in last place last season. (And is not sitting too pretty right now.)
As I submit my reply, the poll shows the Oilers with more votes than the past two cup winners (Chicago and Pittsburgh). Really? Does this make sense? |

I hope that people genuinely think that vancouver will win the cup. Maybe it's a bunch of VC fans?
They have a great team again this year. Let's hope Lou can keep them in it this year. |

Oilers should not be included yet and Vancouver a very good team but I like Chicago & Detroit in the west. Washington (even though suspect in goal) & Boston fight it out in the east. Boston and Chicago in the final.
Chicago repeat. |

It's hard to count out Washington, with their regular season success each of the past 3 or so seasons.
But, it becomes easier, after watching their post-season failures.
If Washington can go this season, playing play-off style hockey (mainly that of, more a defensive, physical game), while still netting goals the way they do (or, not netting as many, but, focusing on defense a bit more), they could be the team to beat come playoff time. As, they are the team to beat during the regular season.
Another team I like, is the LA Kings. The Kings have a solid, young team with good veteran depth to help out. The Kings, with Quick coming in to his own in the NHL now, could be a contender this year.
I also never count out the Red Wings in the West. A solid veteran team, who play playoff style hockey, all year round. Never know when they'll make a Cup appearance.
And, in the East, it's hard to count out the Penguins. Really lacking Wingers this year, perhaps more than ever. But, you can never count out their Big 3 at Center. Crosby, Malkin & Staal. They make below average wingers each year, look almost like they belong in the NHL.
If guys like Kunitz can contribute a bit, the Pens can grind it out.

Well, 3 out of 4 in the final 4 predictions!
That's got to amount to something, right?
Making the world more awesome, one step at a time! |
