Who do you think will be the 4 capitains for the all star game this year?
I think it will be: Team 1. Crosby, and Stamkos Team 2. Ovechkin, and Toews.
There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs".

I do not think so, considering that the teams do not have to be.

Crosby vs Ovechkin would be a marketing dream. Stamkos, as good as he has been, is not in a big enough market and is not as popular of a name.
Crosby vs Ovechkin. I can't see it any other way. |

Considering the players are voting on the captains, something tells me that it will not end up being Crosby and Ovechkin, definatly not Ovechkin, I think he rubs a lot of people the wrong way with his cockyness. I could definatly see Lidstrom being one of the captains. He is definatly one of the most respected guys in the league.

Players are not voting on the Captains.
From the NHL press release:
Captains for each side will select from a pool of players chosen by a combination of fan balloting and the NHL Hockey Operations Department. The change in format is a joint effort by the League and the NHL Players' Association
So what I read is the NHL is going to set up a pool pf players and then fans will vote on those players.
The players have zero to do with who is Captain. |

That would be really cool. I definitely don't think they will be captains, but I bet you they get put on opposing teams. How fun would that be?
I like this format, with the East, West crossover and such. Also Im interested to see which captain picks which players. |

Smells like marketing.
Hate to be a Debbie Downer on everything lately concerning the NHL, but really, this all just smells like a blatant marketing ploy to pit Crosby versus Ovechkin. The inexact and manipulative way they describe the captain choosing process tells me that.
And if it's not Crosby/Ovechkin, it'll be Crosby / Henrik Sedin, or Crosby/Thornton.
I liked the East / West competition, myself . . . and I think this is just to sell to the 5 potential fans in Phoenix that are thinking of buying the double discounted tickets for $5 each to possibly see a hockey game sometime in the future.
sigh.

Everyone (including me) says that Crosby vs. Ovechkin is a marketing dream.
I wonder if they could be able to co-exist on the same team, perhaps as co-capitains against the Sedins?

[b][In his role as an NHL executive, Shanahan has worked with the NHL Players' Association to revamp this season's all-star game format. The players have been handed the power and will select the two captains who will then pick the teams that will face off on all-star weekend in Carolina.b]
I took that from this TSN articlehttp://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=340609 All your quote says is where the players the captains will get to pick are coming from, not where the captains are getting picked from. so yes, the captains are being chosen by players.

I see!! I must have misread the original points. If the players are involved, I still think it will be a Crosby/Ovechkin thing however the perception of the NHL being involved is some what deflected with the appearance of the players picking the captain. |
