Ok I need some clarification. In the 70's there were two divisions (I think they were called NHL East and NHL West). So when the question says "Retire in Eastern Conference" does that mean this player did not retire in NHL East/? I hope it is not hard to follow but I thimk it may be.

In the mid 70's there was the Prince of Wales Conference and the Clarence Campbell Conference. Before that they were East and West, I think, and then after as well.

Prior to the 1993-94 season there was the Campbell Conference, and the Wales Conference.
Prior to 1974-75 there was the East and West Divisions.
Prior to 1967-68 there was only one Division.
Prior to 1938-39 there was a Canadian, and American Division.

Teams move around from year to year.
For Example"
1969-70 Detroit was in the East Division.
1978-79 Detroit was in the Wales Conference ,Norris Division.
2006-07 Detroit is in the Western Conference, Central Division.

So if this player retired in 1970 on Detroit, and you asked me if he retired in the West, the answer would be NO.

It is critical to get the answer you want, East, West etc so I always think it is best to wait untill you find the era he played in before that question is asked, the answer may be misleading...
