The Bruins, who just acquired Tomas Kaberle, have moved out Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler to Atlanta for Boris Valabik and Rich Peverely.
Good move?

I'm praying it's a good move for me? I've had Peverly in my draft since day 1 and i've been awaiting a trade for a long time! He needed outta there in a bad way. I think he's got some game! |

I thought Boston's move in the Toronto trade came up pretty even - Kaberle will be a big boost.
This one I am not so sure about.
All I hear about from Boston fans about Wheeler was that he didn't use his size, not fulfilling expectations, blah blah blah . . . which may have been true, but - for a third line guy, his stats are pretty good. And he has promise to be a hulking 60 point guy in the future (reminds me of Antropov with a bit less skill).
Brad Stuart was a solid d-man, and will be missed - no Beantowner is saying he was expendable. He was a defensive, grit guy . . . having a so-so season.
The give up this for . . . Peverley and a no-name? A very soft and somewhat skilled center goes to a team chock full of centers . . . uh, I really don't see equal value going back to the Bruins here.
Holy crap, Valabik isbig! 6'7", 245 . . . yikes, another Chara on D! Well, size-wise anyways . . .
I call this a win for Atlanta, unless Peverley can magically become the number two center on a team with Bergeron and Krejci.

Sorry guys, I think there is a bit of an error in the post. I think the Stuart sent to Atlanta is Mark Stuart, as Brad Stuart plays for Detroit this year, I believe.
That being said, the deal looks a little more like a wash, IMO, as Peverly and Wheeler have similar numbers and probably both needed a change of scenery.
Mark Stuart for Valabik probably favors Atlanta a bit, as Stuart seemed to have a regular spot, while Valabik didn't, and the little I know about Valabik is that he seems to be more of the enforcer type, rather than a journeyman type of defencemen, and Youtube says he may not even excel at that. .
Had it been Brad Stuart and Wheeler, definite advantage to Atlanta, but Mark is no Brad.

Wheeler took the Bruins to arbitration and won, so B's signed him to 1 yr deal. In order to take on Kabby, they needed a salary dump, Stuart & Wheeler. Valabik is in system, so we took on one salary and dumped 2, saving approx $700k. |
