Nugent Hopkins will be an all star in the nhl. Larsson is inconsistent. Landeskog will be a hard working Mike Richards type guy, and I don't know much about couturier, maybe a gaborik type player

Kesler is the TRUE Nucks Captain.

1st pick will be determined by which team gets first pick, if it is edmonton i dont think Nugent Hopkins will go first, they dont need another small player, so landeskog if edmonton has first pick, hopkins if ottawa has first pick.

Why wouldn't Edmonton go with Hopkins?? 6'0-160lbs as a 17 yr old can easily be 180-190 by the time he is NHL ready. According to the numbers, Kadri gained almost 20 lbs over a summer, why couldn't Hopkins??

Sure, every team would love to have a Getzlaf/Stall type 6'5" Centre but they don't grow on trees. The Oilers might not be the biggest team out there but I also don't think they are the smallest. Consider this list of what most would assume is 9-10 projected players that are likely the Oilers top forwards moving fowards.

Taylor Hall - 6'1" - 194 lbs
Shawn Horcoff - 6'1" - 208 lbs
Jordan Eberle - 6'0" - 185 lbs
Ales Hemsky - 6'1" - 184 lbs
Sam Gagner 5'11" - 191 lbs
Magnus Paajarvi - 6'3" - 200 lbs
Anton Lander - 6'0" - 200 lbs
Curtis Hamilton - 6'2" - 206 lbs
Linus Omark - 5'10" - 174 lbs

Contrary to popular believe, the average size and weight in the NHL today is 6'1" and 202 lbs. Considering that, the Oilers have the height and most of these guys are still filling out. The Oilers are not small, they are average. Maybe a bit on the small side of average but not that far off.

Finally, the teams that have always done the best in the draft always do the same thing. That is, take the best players available. Period. For example, 2008 was a deep draft year with various good players but Stamkos was the best player available. At the time, TB has Lecavalier at the top of his game and were set at #1 centre for the next decade. So why not step over Stamkos and take Doughty #1?? Because Stamkos was the best player available.

If the Oilers get the #1 pick again, they will pick who they think is the best player available. Period.

Pretty much depends on the team.

If the Oilers go 1st, it'll be Larsson.

If it's Colorado or Ottawa, it'll be Nugent-Hopkins.

There was once a license plate in Toronto that abbreviated "Go Leafs" it read "Golfs".

I still believe Couturier goes first, most complete player going into the nhl draft. Followed closely by Landskog & Nugent - Hopkins.

Like others said it really depends on who is drafting.

The Oilers could use a blue chip prospect on D but i believe Beans is right you should take the best player available and Nugent-Hopkins would be that guy IMO

Colorado isn't drafting a center when they have duchene and stastny, ottawa might, but landeskog would be the best fit theorically as he would take over from alfredsson, oilers need a defensman and a center so it could be either or

Teams take the best player available, foolish not to do so.

Are you saying that if a teams biggest need is a top D-man...they would take for example a Larry Murphy type defenseman 1st over-all and over-look a Sidney Crosby type forward just because they need a D-man more.....come on.

You take the best player available, PERIOD. This draftee is an asset to a business, the better the asset - the more gain to the business.

Can you imagine what Pittsburg would get in return if they traded Sidney Crosby ?? ( barring the concussion of course )....you look for the biggest asset....plain and simple.

Completely agree Duke. This drafting for needs is not a bad plan but not lottery picks. They always have to be the best player available. Specifically with a team like Edmonton who have been stock piling draft picks for the past 3ish seasons. So what if they have 5 or 6 top teir forward draft picks. That means they have assets other teams want.

If Nuggent Hopkins is the best players available and the Oilers pick first, they will pick him.
