You should let the owners put their team's line combinations together before the vote so we could see what their thinking was with their picks. Just a thought!

Some insights from my team:

- goaltending: and think I have the best goaltending tandem picked, Hasek one of the best ever paired with Cujo, perhaps one of the best goalies to never win a cup.
- defensive pairings: solid offensive paired with solid defensive. Chelios/Gonchar would be lethal.
- offensive: top 2 lines speak for themselves - first line is classic awesome, second line is new awesome. I love that 3rd energy line for combination of size, energy, scoring talent. 4th line all about shutdown.

Have to admit, a very nice lineup you have there Nuxfan, especially in net. Now, i'll show you the boys who'll beat those goalies, even if they're in your net at the same time!!!

While i will concede the goaltending battle, i am confident my forwards are as good or better than any group selected, and my D is as balanced as can be.

Coach: Al Arbour (sneakiest pick of the draft )
GM: Glen Sather

FORWARDS
Kariya / Forsberg / Jagr
Leclair / Sundin / Perry
Staal / Datsyuk / Toews
M.Richards / Bergeron / Madden

DEFENSE
Pronger / Doughty
Weber / Foote
Whitney / Kronwall

GOALIES
Khabibulin
Ward

Can you imagine Forsberg and Jagr on the same line??? Throw in a finisher like Kariya, (former 50 goal scorer) and i see magic! Two former 50 goal guys playing with the guy who ranks 4th all time behind only Gretzky, Lemieux and Orr in career assists per game is pretty much unstoppable!
How 'bout that 2nd line? Imagine trying to handle them? Approx sizes, Sundin 6'5" 230lbs, Perry 6'3" 205lbs, Leclair 6'3"235lbs. If Pierre called these guys "monsters", he wouldn't be wrong! Think of how good Sundin's numbers were throughout his career and then think how good they'd be playing with a guy like Lecair who scored 50+ three straight years and Perry who is doing everything he can to join the 50 goal club this season (has 47 now).
Now, if you can have Datsyuk as your 3rd line center, you must be deep. Yeah, i could have had him as my 2, but i feel he'd fit better here with his 2 way play as he, along with Staal and Toews are 3 of the most "responsible" players in the league as far as being able to play a 2 way game. Datsyuk has absolutely owned the Selke these past few years and Toews is in the mix for it this year.
Speaking of depth, any team with Mike Richards on a 4th line has to be extremely deep! With him, former Selke winner Madden (1 Selke and 3 runner ups for it) and Bergeron, who we all know relished and exelled at his role as a defensive / PK specialist for Team Canada 2010 and you have a pretty good 4th line.
On D, a great mix of offense, defense and grit. Oh, and some nastiness (Pronger). Weber and Doughty on the point (if i didn't just throw out 5 of my awesome forwards) on the PP with Pronger and Whitney on the 2nd unit? Pretty nice. Defensive specialists in Foote and Kronwall round out a pretty impressive 6!
My goalies, while not as impressive as some teams, have both proven they can win when it counts as they both are proud owners of cup rings!

As for numbers, I don't have the time to collect them all, and frankly they don't really tell the whole story in a draft like this seeing as i have only 5 guys who've retired (and therefore likely played fewer games) compared to 10 (12 including goalies) on my competitions team. For example, i may only have 1 Norris trophy, but given i have Doughty and Weber, that's likely to increase in the future!

I do know this though, of my 20 players i have:
- 15 different guys with Olympic Gold medals (inc. 8 from Canada 2010)
- 13 different guys with at least 1 cup ring (inc both goalies)
- 6 of the 24 members of the Triple Gold Club
- 5 players who currently captain their NHL clubs (talk about leadership!)

I'm sure there's more i could list, but this is good enough for now.

Again, props to you Nuxfan, for drafting a stellar team! It's too bad there's no simulator of some sort we could compare our squads on, rather than just a poll. I'm pretty confident in my club, as i'm sure you are yours. It's a shame we had to meet in the first round!!!

It is, our teams are both very good IMO. You have a lot more of the "now", I have a bit more of the "before", it may be hard for some peeps to remember Desjardins, Chelios, Hull, Hasek, Cujo in their primes - awesome players. We will see.

Really close, I'm going to say that the first one to 30 wins just so we can get on with this.

I say Alex wins this one.

The tipping point for me is Forsberg,Datyuk,Jagr. You throw in any 9 NHL'ers and those 3 guys will make them look like all-stars.

My list of positional/special teams comparisons:

Forwards: Alex's California Seals are better by a hair, due to the top-end talent.

Defense: I'd have to call it a tie in terms of defensive ability, mobility, passing skill etc.

Goalies: Khabi/Ward vs Hasek/Joseph Hmmm, half of the goalies have been Oilers. But the better tandem definitely goes to Nuxfan's Atlanta Flames. Tipping point: Only 4 goalies have ever one the Hart. Hasek is one of them, and the only goalie to win it multiple times(twice).

I do agree that Nux has some older players that may make it a disadvantage for younger voters. Guys like Tony Amonte and Juri Lehtinenin their prime were excellent hockey player who might not get the credit the deserve by those who did not see them play.

However, I think Alex's forwards are a better top 6 and marginally better through the bottom 1/2 of the forwards. Sakic and Hull are nice but that line of Jagr, Forsberg, and Kariya are as sick as they come. To follow that up with Sundin, LeClair, and Perry is nearly impossible to stop. However, if I was coaching Nux team, the 3rd line would be the 2nd line.

I see Alex's defensive core to be more dynamic through the 6 players.

Nux takes goaltending by a wide margin but I don't think it's enough.

They way I am basing my vote is not what team is better but who I think would win a 7 game Stanley Cup final.

My vote gots to Alex but I think Nux got a little shafted by this draw as I see his team better than many other teams by a wide margin. To me, Nux got stuck playing the the top seed in the first round.

Wow flip of a coin, that sucks for the two of you. I said last month these where the two best teams overall. Looks like the first to 30 walks the rest of the way through to the cup. However, that also depends on the average age of votersas well. BOL

Yeah, i agree, when i had a quick look at everyone's teams (along with my views as they were being drafted), i thought there was a good chance that we had the best two. No offense to anyone else's, and i certainly didn't take the time to look up all stats nor do line combo's for everyone, but i seriously thought we could be up against one another in the final? I thought someone somewhere along the line said that we were going 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc (#'s representing draft order)?

Regardless, there's no money riding on this, it's all for fun, so it's not a big deal really! Like any other thread, there'll be differences in opinions!

Although i lead 12-8 right now, i have one question. Is this poll public? Can anyone vote? Or just site members? I don't know a lot about how these polls work really but i think it'd be better if only members were allowed to work and rather than a poll, had to state their opinion! Sure, it'd be a little more difficult to follow/calculate, but it'd be better than a bunch of random "guests" voting for the sake of voting without even following it.

Just my "two pennies".....

I'm not big on knowing what to do in that kind of area.

Would someone contact Admin or a moderator when one of you reaches 30 to lock this poll?

AO You can lock this poll if you login and edit the poll itself, there is usually an option to "Lock" this poll, and even make it members only. And, instead of making it "first to 30" give a max time limit, locking the poll after a given amount of time, because it could take weeks depending on member interest.

I first looked at GM,COACH / FORWARDS / DEFENSE /GOALIES seperately and then looked at the teams globally.

As for the GM,COACH section, I saw it as a tie, giving a slight edge to Alex if I had.

For forwards, I really Nuxfan's first line and the fact that his 4th line would have a clear role on the team, but still I have to give Alex the edge because he's so strong up the middle and has more depth I think.

On Defense, I like Alex's first 2 pairings and Nuxfan's 3rd so again I gave Alex the edge. The Weber / Foote pairing I would take anyday over Campbell / Hatcher, but wouldn't mind either on my team.

Goalies go to Nuxfan no contest.

All in all, I voted for Alex. Maybe because many of his players are still playing, but I tried to be objective and open-minded when I analysed everything and thats it.

I like the idea of doing a time limit (x amount of days) or lower the number of votes for the win.
