It seems fitting that while watching the Canucks completely dismantle the Sharks that I finally pay up on my lost bet with Nuxfan. The bet, for anyone who cares, was that Chicago would finish 4th or better in the Western Conference. I said they would, Nux said they wouldn’t. The loser would pay the winner with a post singing the virtues of a player of the winners choosing. Nux choice was Tanner Glass. Firstly, I gotta thank Nux for giving me an easy assignment. He could have made it far more difficult for me with a guy like Alex Burrows or Raffi Torres (who I couldn’t stand even in Oiler silks), but he gave me a guy that I actually like. What’s not to like? Tanner Glass is the quintessential long shot. Born in the flatlands of Regina Saskatchewan, Glass spend his midget career in Saskatchewan before heading out to BC to play Junior A between Penticton and Naniamo. He had a good enough junior career to get a spot with the Dartmouth Big Green in the American College system. His 4 years there started off tough with a bout of mono, but he ended up as the Asst Cap in his junior year and the Captain as a senior. He lead his team to the 3rd place game 3 times in the ECAC conference of the NCAA. Not drafted by this point, Glass fought his way to getting a try-out contract with the Rochester Americans. He played there for 3 years with the exception of a 40 game run with Florida during the 08/09 season. He then gets signed by the Canucks at league minimum on a 2-way deal for one year. He played well enough to go to arbitration, get a bit of a raise, and being the only hold over on the Canucks 4th line.

He did this all with his play. He’s not the fastest guy, not the strongest guy, not the smartest guy, but you will be hard pressed to find a guy that plays with as much heart. He never takes a shift off, will ride that bench for 10 minutes straight before he gets the call and works his tail off for 45 second and give his team every he’s got. He is known to be a great team mate and it shows on the ice in his play. He’s scrappy but not a heavyweight by any measure. But if someone takes liberties with any of his team mates, you know Glass will be the first guy in the scrum regardless of who he has to square off with. Above all this, he’s not a dirty guy, has respect for the game and the opposition, and is one of those guys you can see really love to play the game.

On a team filled with guys that non-Canuck fans love to hate, Tanner Glass is a guy who is nearly impossible not to like.

Even.

I'm even impressed that you recognized I gave you a lighter task than I could have, and you did him justice.

Glad my debt it paid. It took a while so I figured I better do it justice to cover any interest.

I am also looking forward to equitable payback next year!

I will give you a chance next year for payback, if you wish. It might even be the same bet, who knows!

Lol, well done Beans. Ironically, he (Glass), was benched tonight in favour of Jeff Tambellini!
