I know the NHL has to recognize the large number of TV viewers from the east, so to see every one of the seven Stanley Cup final games scheduled for 8 p.m. eastern time should not come as a surprise.
For Vancouver fans (or fans who reside in the Pacific Time Zone), it just means early game times (5 p.m.) for the Stanley Cup finals.
I guess this leaves more time to party (assuming Vancouver is victorious) afterwards!

it's been like that for a while. And for me, living in the maritime, it starts at 9:00 and that's the latest I can go to watch a hockey game during the week (6 hours of sleep is not enough for me). So I'm glad they do this for the finals. This way I can watch every games.

Not that it is done for us living in Atlantic Standard Time zone but it is tough enough staying awake for 9;00 game times. Anything latter and interest will drop off. |

Got to the pub @ 3:30 today, just to get a table...there were already 5 tables taken. Some people went out for lunch and just never went back |

I'm glad that some of the Canucks fans here haven't taken offence to the (for them) early start time. I think the NHL did a great job here, as it's at a decent enough time for a guy like me from Toronto who has to get up early in the morning - and yet, it's not too afternoon-ish for the west coasters.
I say the Nucks fans should take it as a compliment to their team - we easterners WANT to watch you guys, we are a much bigger populace, and you should take pride in it.
Nothing sucks more than "I don't care", and clearly, we do - as hockey fans, and as Canadians.*
*not including the american Beantown fans, but we all know the vast majority of watchers are Canadian, so deal with it

Slozo, i think most of us are too excited to complain about anything!
Having said that, there were tons of traffic jams yesterday between 4:30 and 5, wonder how many Canucks fans will be ranting and raving about missing the first period today?
The only real complaint i have is that they could have gotten in at least one more Sat night game (next weekend) which would help most be able to view it. Heck, even make it a Sunday game? The one thing any fan has to realize if they complain about this sched is that if they didn't make changes and left the games at 7 here in Van, that they just as easily could have made the Boston games 7pm EST which would mean at least 2 and possibly 3 games starting at 4pm PST!!!! |

erm....thank you almighty eastern Canada, for supporting our lowly local hockey club in its quest to win the cup. I don't know where we would be without your support and generally indifferent viewing audience...
I'm pretty sure the NHL was thinking about Boston fans, as opposed to anyone else. |

Exactly right Nuxfan. The NHL doesn't give a s*** about the Nux. They would rather have NYR, PHI, PIT or any of those american teams in the final even if it meant they were in the Western Conference. (P.S Winnipeg is playing in the East next year, so DET stays in the west, very unfortunate News.

I was very happy when I found out everygame was at 5, it means none were at 4 as I work till 4:30. Plus as I'm going to game 2 I will be able to catch the 9 ferry home barring OT.

I don't know why people are saying that they did it for Boston fans or the Vancouver fans. It's always like that for the Stanley Cup finals.
Even last year Chicago and Philadelphie, or the couple of years before with Detroit and Pittsburgh. It has been 8ET for a while now. They are trying to get the most viewers as possible and to put it at 8ET is the best time for the whole country to watch.
This is a whole new debate but in order to have more viewers for the Stanley cup final they should start the NHL season in september and have the finals in may. |

I agree - hockey in June is too late. |

Totally lmfao'ing on this one!! I'm glad that most people here have a pretty good sense of humour!
I suppose that the NHL did the best they could with game times, but I'm sorry - No games for 4 straight days? 1 game in a 7 day span?? 2 games in a 9 day span? 3 games in an incredible 11 day span?
Sure, plenty of recovery time for semi-injured players, but little momentum to be had. |
