now it was a bad hit, I think in the last though we saw hit like this go without supplimentry disciplin, so in my opinion this is a great chance for Shanny to show s just how and what kind of leader he is going to be, i can`t wait and i hope he strings Shelly up and Consistently string offenders up

I can't see any grey in that hit at all. It was blatent boarding. Shelley deserved a major and in the new NHL it's a suspension. It will be interesting to see what example Shanahan makes of him. I would bet he gets 3 games. Less wouldn't prove a point (new sheriff and all) and more would be a little rediculous. |

i agree 100% and what i hope is Shanahan gives Shelly as you said at least 3 games but then he Consistently keeps that level of severity throughout the season

Nice to see the NHL take appropriate action here. 5 pre-season games and five regular season games.I, also, like the fact that the NHL released a video (in the Leblond suspension as well) to show why the infraction garnered the suspension it did and the particualr rule that was broken. So far Shanny is 2 for 2 IMHO.

Very well done IMO he broke down the infraction cited the rules and set an example!! Lets hope they stay consistent and continue to handle these dangerous infractions in such an intelligent manner!!!

Wow, that is quite a statement - 5 pre-season, 5 reg season. Yikes! What a difference from Campbell!
Can't say I disagree with it - it was a no-doubter boarding infraction. Shelley is a repeat offender.
But I am very, very cautious about expressing too much delight at this frankly . . . I just hope that all the players had gotten notice of the new standard before this suspension. And, more importantly, I hope that this new standard can be applied evenly to all players.
When a mid season Pronger does the same thing to an opponent, I hope he gets the same medecine, is all I am saying.
We'll see.

come on guys, let's not celebrate to quickly here. after making your way through all the smoke and mirrors, this suspension really only amounts to 5 games. including the 5 pre-season games was just to make it look more severe. i mean really, how many of these 5 pre-season games would Shelley have played? i'm guessing 2, maybe 3 at most. and besides that, they're PRE-SEASON! they don't even count for anything! If Shanny really wanted to make a statement he would have given him 10 regular season games, based on: severity, intent, and prior incidents. the hit Shelley laid out was a text book example of boarding (or hit from behind). he had LOADS of time to stop, slow down, turn away, ease up.....anything but throw a body check like he did. based on that evidence alone it should be 5 games. then add in the fact that he caused an injury (2 more games), and that he has a history of this behaviour (3 more games), and you have reasonable cause to give him 10 games. |
