Poll Question:
The question here is simple. who will score the most goals this season?

After playing in the NHL, it's hard to watch hockey games.

Choices:

Dany Heatley
Vincent Lecavelier
Ilya Kovalchuk
Simon Gagne
Alexander Ovechkin
Henrik Zetterberg
Jarome Iginla
other (who)

I voted for heatley. He's a consistent goal scorer and has a lot of offensive help playing with alfredsson and Spezza.

I think Heatley is a good bet. But if Zetterberg can keep up his pace he'll score 70 goals.

This is the year Antropov finally takes that next step...hahaha..No seriously, it was already mentioned Heatley has a ton of talent around him and is a natural goal scorer himself. I think he scores the most goals this year. Of course if Spezza keeps missing games with minor injuries like every other year of his career then it might be more difficult for him.

Against my natural tendencies of picking a Canadian, I went with Ovechkin. He's not as consistent as Heatley, and he plays on a weaker team/line.

However, is there anyone who likes to score goals more than him? Nope. He has ahunger for the net that really impresses me.

What doesn't impress me are his "Nobody can stop me" comments he made after the Leaf game a few nights back. If Sidney had said that, there would be 50 threads on here about how Crosby is a showboat and a egomaniac, as well as the usual whiner material. For some reason, Ovechkin gets a free pass (because he's Russian, maybe). He's tremendous talent, though.

Zetterberg and Kovalchuk are heating up now with 12 goals each.

The player who will win the Maurice Richard Trophy is the most consistent scorer. Zetterberg is hitting hot streaks. Dany Heatley or Vincent Lecavalier will score almost every game through the WHOLE season. Either those two will win it.

Kovalchuk could win it aswell but the consistency is the issue.

Heatley has been a consistant scorer for the past two years. I think a 50+ season is definalty possible. Lecavalier has a good shot too, but I think its gunna be Heatley.

When Kovalchuk wants to score it seems that he is hard to stop, but consistency could be his demise.

Two straight hat tricks are not all that bad...

I have him in my pool, and hat tricks are an extra 5 points...

I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

PuckNuts not a bad pick eh? I got him aswell and I was 3rd now he hit his hot streak and im ahead by 11 points.

But anyways, I say Heatley or Kovalchuk. Heatley is a consistent scorer as mentioned above. But I watched my 1st Atlanta game (Kovalchuk got a hat-trick) and every goal he scored he would scream at the top of his lungs and you could tell that's what he wants to do, score goals, right now he looks very determined so you never know if he could pull it off.

As I have previously aluded to, Kovalchuk is a hotdog and not a team player. This is proof.

Your proof that he's a hot dog and not a team player is that he yells when he gets a goal? I'm a fan of the quiet celebration too but if that's your proof that he's not a team player I think you need to dig a little deeper.

So a season long points streak is just a hot streak? he has only not scored a goal in 4 of the games this year. Im not saying he will win the Trophy, but if 24 points in 14 games is nothing but a hot streak then he must produce massivly even when he's cold.

Now I personally think that Heatly will win the Richard trophy. (Even though my earlier comment stated about Cammalari

My vote is for Heatley all the way. 50+ Goals past two seasons, (only player in the last two seasons to do so,) and with Spezza passing a lot more, Alfreddson playing so well, he's liable to do it again. I project 57 goals for Heatley.

Yes, Spezza is injured. But he'll be back.

If Crosby keeps scoring like he has been, you may have to add him to the list.

People need to stop saying Crosby for everything. Yes, he's a great player. But there are others in the NHL. :)

Won't is a pretty big word, Mr. Smith.

Pro-rated at his current goal scoring pace, he'd get 52.

Now, I'm not saying he'll do it. But I am not saying he won't, either.

And as for the comment that "People need to stop saying Crosby for everything. Yes, he's a great player. But there are others in the NHL. :)"

I'll tell you what...I'll stop as soon as someone is AS GOOD as him, okay? Does it make sense to not talk about the best player in the world? Perhaps I should focus more on David Legwand.

Actually I quite like Legwand. We can talk about him. I saw him in the Prospects game the year he played in it in Calgary. My father and I picked him out as the best player in that game.

I like him too. I even picked him in my hockey pool, and I'm not disappointed. But I don't want to talk about him anymore.

I really think it going to come down to a battle between Kovolchuk and Lecavalier. Zetteberg is smallish and will probably miss some time. Heatley is streaky but might get enough during his hot streaks to cover as it's going to be an interesting race for sure. I really like Nash as well but I do not think he has quite enough supporting cast to win the Rocket Richard!!!!!

It might sound funny but i picked other and my choice is Martin St.Louis. I know it might sound funny because after last night he only has 8 goals , I still think he is going to come alive anytime now and score me alot of goals for my pool and win the Maurice Richard Trophy. If not him its either Kovalchuk, Heatly, Lecavleier

That's a good point...I dunno, OV just strikes me as a happy-go-lucky guy, so ya I give him a free pass..I guess it's the same as you giving Canadians free passes...So I guess we just like different players, so we can stop bickering..I'll give you a free pass, hahaha.

I say Kovalchuk will win it, but it'll be close with Heatley and Lecavalier, I think. Kovie is doing it all on his own early (mostly), including the very quick resurgence of the Atlanta team.

This brings me to a complaint . . . with Hossa only getting warmer recently, and Kovalchuk being the only reason Atlanta won at least half the games in their return to respectablility . . . how can people be knocking Kovie so much? It irks me when the cold hard facts disagree with popular opinion . . .

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a big fan of Kovalchuk's character. I'm also not a big fan of Alfie's character either. But with a poll last week, I was flabbergasted when people overwhelmingly chose Ovechkin as top russian (worst team in nhl currently) over Kovalchuk, who wasn't even mentioned or in the poll at first. Ridiculous!

Anyway, just needed to get that off my chest.
