I just want to know what teams you guys thinks will be on top at the end of the season.
List the teams who will win their divison and the conference.
For the Conference list the top two teams.

Atlantic: I think that New Jersey has streaked in the past 3 weeks. I recall a time when they were like 9-15-4 or something. They could slip again. Broduer gets hurt or plays bad and they fall. NYR could still win it, but they don't have to. They are built as a playoff team. They just need to get there. Philly is not a bad team either but are inconsistant at home. Sid the Kid????
Smart money:New Jersey.
Big Money: PIttsburg
Northwest: I can see anyone even challenging Ottawa in this division. I think that Montreal is coming off their cloud, Boston and Buffalo just don't have the squad that Ottawa has, and Toronto..............
Smart Money: Ottawa
Big Money: No Bet. Don't go against Ottawa
Southwest: The battle of the weak perhaps?? Carolina would be an overwhelming favorite, but if TB could shore up their defense and goaltending at or before the deadline, they could be there. FLA is not far from being a good team either, I just think that there is a power struggle in the front office of that team that creates issues on the ice. ATL is just not the same team as last year and may have worse goaltending than TB if it's possible. Washington, keep building.
Smart Money: Carolina
Big Money: Tampa Bay
East Overall: Ottawa will be on top, with the winner of the Atlantic coming in 2nd (NJ or NYR) and the winner of Southeast (CAR or TB) rounding out the top 3.

Pacific: Interesting division. SJ is the cream of the crop, but Weight gives Anaheim a dimension they didn't have even last year. A pure set up man in the middle. Then throw Dallas in the mix?? Toughest pick I would say. Phoenix and LA, not there yet.
Smart Money: SJ
Big Money: Dallas
Central: Has the Central final tossed the monkey of weakest division in Hockey?? I think so. I wonder if Detroit will get more respect now that fans believe the division is stronger now. The other team in the Central are getting better but no even close to Detroit.
Smart Money: Detroit
Big Money: No bet.
Northwest: Along with the Atlantic, the tightest division in hockey. Even the Oilers, who everyone wrote off at the start are the season, are but 3 games out of the division lead. This one will go down to the last 5-10 games of the season. Who ever is the hotest will win.
Smart Money: Anyone but Edmonton
Big Money: Edmonton
I would say that Detroit will win the Conference and President's Trophy, then the winner of the Pacific will be 2nd, and the NW winner will be 3rd.

There I go again, being the rebellious thirteen year old that I am. But in my opinion, the New Jersey Devils will just not have enough to edge out the Rangers in the full 82. The Rangers are only .500 in their last ten, which explains why they are 2 points behind the Devils. If, which is very possible, they do not end up on top in regular season play... count on it in the playoffs. The Rangers are a new team this year and didn't pay big money for nothing.

As we have seen, they can afford to slack off for more than 20 percent of their season (7 losses, 30 games) and still manage to hold unchallenged rights to first in the division. With Boston the only consitent team in the division, they are taking it this year.

I'm not just saying that. Last year was a bad year for the hungover Canes, who seem to have reawoken this year and come out fighting. Arguably the weakest division, SE will be prey to a strong Carolina team this year.

It is hard to be controversial when the team leading the division is up 13 pts on the runner up. Detroit's only problems are the goalie question, and with Lidstrom anchoring on D, Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom clicking, and the rest of the team leading the way, they are even noticeably better than the Sens, at least through the first 30 or so games.

5 points seperate number one through five. However, when all is said and done, even though it is way too close to call, as has always been, I expect the Flames or Minnie to take it. Minnesota is number one if I have to pick just one.

The Ducks will be a new team with Burke dangling around in the front office. Thronton and Nabokov can not continue to single handedly win games, and even though I would say the smart money is on Dallas, I don't pick them to win this one. Duck's cup has a nice sound to it, don't it?

Conference Champs
Eastern:
Personally, a more consistent NYR and more competitive Carolina could give the Sens a run for their money. Carolina is my, if you will, 'sleeper pick' for this one. If I had to put money on it that I could not afford to lose, I would probably place it on the Sens though.
Western:
Detroit has a lead big enough that they can take the next five games off, more than five percent of the season, and still be the front runners in this race. Still, I don't put it past the defensive first Ducks squad to maybe even outshine the Wings post All-Star break. I would give a chance to Minnesota out of diplomacy, but they won't take it.
What I think: Ottawa - Detroit
Mark my words: Carolina - Ducks
The last two teams to win a cup might just face each other in the finals. WAY too early to call or debate, but it is still a possibility. Cool.  |

I don't see Tampa edging Carolina. And the Flyers will probably not edge NYR and NJD. It could happen, but they would have to go through two formidable foes to get there...
