Good idea for a game came to mind. What we will do is see who knows their playoff hockey the best!

Round One - Conference Quarterfinals
Once the NHL season is over, all interested members should post a list of who they think will win each matchup. All those with an 75 percent accuracy (ie. 6 or more of their 8 picks move on) will get to play in the next round.

Round Two - Conference Semifinals
All the members who picked with 100 percent accuracy move on.

Round Three - Conference Finals
All members who picked with 100 percent accuracy and predicted with at least 50 percent accuracy how long one of the two best of sevens would last move on.

Round Four - Finals
Before the start of each game, members need to bet on the winner. If it gets really close, we will go by amount of goals.

Obviously the rules can be adapted based on how it goes. Turnout will play a big role. We will see if not enough people make it to the next rounds, or too many do, how we should adapt the rules accordingly. I am open to suggestion.

Unlike all the games where a lot of you guys stay out, I think this one should not be hard to enter. I really want to try and involve everyone. Especially, I mean, especially the mods. We all know how much they know about hokcey history; how well can they predict the future?

You can start signing up now. I will post in a seperate posts the members involved. It should not take too long to simply pick 8 teams who you think will win. Just for fun guys. Please try and join

Must say I am very disappointed with the turnout. Many of our most prolific posters have chosen to sit out on this one. It only takes two seconds guys. If Beans can do it so can you!

Playoffs start in less than a week. Make an effort to join.

As I said, we will see how it goes. If tons of people get past the first round, yes. If not, no. If barely anyone escapes the first round alive, we will change the percentage needed.

hi alex
couldn't email you as you have no email address in your profile. not trying to jump all over your poll setup but i was wondering what you think of making each round worth pts. something like -first rd every pick you get right = 2 pts next rd each one right = 4pts. that way everyone could continue playing and not get knocked out. you could than tallie up all the pts and see who wins. not trying to squeeze in on your poll . just wondering if you think if it's better that we keep everyone in the pool till the end.

ps-also it's good to see we are starting to get members getting involved in this pool. which ever way you go alex , thanks for getting it going.

Allright then, I suppose I'll have to join.

Going by your rules . . . unless this is an unusual year with no upsets, I don't see there being a winner without rule modification. Seriously, the odds are greatly against it.

Secondly - Let's get the rules straight: Round one, we just pick the 8 winners of each matchup, 6 or better and we move on to round two. In Round two, we pick the 4 winners, and only those who pick all correctly move on to round 3 (statistically very slim - might want to make it 3 out of 4). Round three, need to pick both winners, and . . . (here's where it gets hazy) . . . predict length of each series?

You say "50% accuracy" . . . what does that mean? It's a 7 game series, so if I predict a 4 game sweep, that's over 50% correct! lol

And then, in round four, if by some miracle two guys are left (won't be, statistically speaking), they bet on winner, and how many goals are scored in the series?

My suggestion: Whatever the outcome after the ROUND 1, you take the top 3 percentages . . . however many people that is. Not likely to be any 8/8s, may be one 7/8, probably a couple 6/8s. My point is, if you take the top 3 percentages, it will be about 4 -7 people.
ROUND 2 - top two percentages move on (should be one or two guys eliminated here)
ROUND 3 - remaining combatants guess winners and series length. If more/less than two guys get both winners correct, you look at how many games off each was. In unlikely event that three or more get the winners and series lengths correct (near impossible, but still), they all get in final round.
ROUND 4 - guess winner, round length, and total goals scored. Closest wins, starting with correct winner, how close the series length prediction is, how close the goal tally is.

Guys this really is for the entire site I don't think it will take much time at all, chances are you commented on the topic in another forum already, you could just pick the 8 teams with higher seeds for all I care, point is to get optimal participation!

Guys like the admin, Willus, Leigh -- join your man Beans, be a sport and come on in! All the rest of you, where are you? MarkhamMax? LeafsFan94? IHATECROSBY? Shinnyafterschool? NashPreds?

And the newbies too, like davbid and other guys, give it a shot you have nothing to lose!

This site is 4 members short of 4600, and so far the turnout is only 17. That is less than a half a percent that has commited to playing! Come on boys!

I was thinking about this and I figure it would be better if everyone who was in from the start is in the entire playoffs. Each round, people pick who they think will win and what number of games each series will take. This way, in the end, the person who has picked the most correct winners will the the best. Plus, if there is a tie, you can go to the number of times the person had the number of games correct as well.

I agree with Beans, but I will add this suggestion:

We give all of our predictions for series winners before each round (or we could give the total prediction down to the winner of the Stanley Cup, just a bit harder), with a prediction for how long each series is.

Each round is weighted, however;
1st round correct guesses gets you 1 point,
2nd round 2 points,
3rd round 3 points,
and 4 points for predicting the Stanley Cup winner.

If more than one person is the winner, you count all the exactly correct predictions for series length (the ones with the correct winner, that is). Still tied, you start with the finals and downward, determining whose prediction was closest.

Again, just a suggestion - but I like the weighted thing, especially if we give all our picks before the playoffs. Because it is damn hard to pick the conference finalists and finalists, so you should be getting more points . . .
