Its hard to tell because hockey season is just starting up soon. But right now I think It would be down to these teams: Philadelphia, Boston, San Jose, Pittsburgh and Detroit and if I had a sixth pick it would be the leafs unfortunalty.Anyways just see what happens.

im going with the san jose sharks, not because im a die hard fan, but because they're going to be more hungry for that cup this year then ever before. after that disappointing first round loss, you know the sharks are going to come out this year ready to go. they've made some nice changes to this team, the big one being trading for heatley. they've gotten some good character guys during the offseason also, they signed scott nichol, mathieu dandaneult, dan hinote and most recently manny malhotra who i think brings a lot to the table.

just because you have a shot to make the playoffs does not anoint you a stanley cup contender...thats silly talk! the leafs have a nice young team but are atleast two years away from being serious contenders. c'mon man, use your noggin! the list is as follows:

flyers
sharks
devils(never count them out)
red wings
blackhawks
penguins
canucks
capitals

actually in that order!
flyguys are bringing it home where it belongs!!

As always, when questions like this arise, I never consult the 'hockey experts'. I consult the people who actually make a living off picking winners and losers. The book makers.

Unfortunately, my server at work does not allow me to visit the gambling websites so I will post the actuals later. However, the last time I checked the odds, Toronto was in the bottom 5-8 teams in the league based on odds. San Jose, Detroit, Pitt, and Boston were the favorites. Chicago, Philly, and Washington were close behind. Most of the other teams were 30-1 to 50-1 odds. Then the Islanders, Toronto, Atlanta, Florida, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Tampa Bay were the bottom of the list.

It'll be a Penguins repeat.

Did you hear about the retired proctologist? He spent 40 years saying "what's a place like this doing in a girl like you?"

Leafs will win the Cup this year. They are a first line centreman away!

Keep the faith my friend, even when all your friends abandon you.

There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E".

not going to beat around the bush. we know there are alot of good teams out there but this year belongs to Philadephia! and i hate the flyers!

Richards, Carter, Briere, Gagne, Hartnell, Giroux
Pronger, Timonen, Carle
Emery - the missing link!

Actually Mikey Boy, your list gave me 2 reasons not including the salary cap that Philly is smashed up against why the will not win the cup this year.

I'm going to say Pittsburg for the repeat. Mostly the same team with no Gill liability on the backend. This team still hasn't peaked in my opinion, and that my friends is scary. I was one of thoughs who did not believe and thought it was all hype about Pittsburg being the dominant team in the NHL. Now I am a believer.

A couple of interesting trivia questions. What happened the last 2 times Chris Pronger switched teams? And what happened the last 2 times Marian Hossa switched teams? Flyers over the Hawks in the final.

The Oil WILL make the playoffs in 2010.

Well, i think i know what you're getting at, but Pronger went to Edm and lost the final before moving to Anaheim and winning it if i recall correctly? Hossa, yeah, last two moves resulted in losses in the finals....Not the kind of streak most would want?

I do like Philly's chances, but i still think the Hawks are a couple years away (maturity/experience) from the finals. Not to mention, Huet would have to be playing his azz off!

Ouf so many good teams on paper and so many who could surprise. On paper here's the contenders IMO.

West : Detroit, San Jose, Chicago, Calgary and Vancouver
East : Philadelphia, Boston, Washington and Pittsburgh

Some teams who could surprise : Dallas, St Louis, Anaheim, New Jersey, Ottawa and Toronto (just cause)

Detroit will meet Calgary in the west conference final
Philadelphia and Washington will meet in the east

Philadelphia will win the cup over Detroit.
