Poll Question:
Is Russia still Canadas biggest rivals in international hockey or is the USA a bigger rival, also are there any Americans who have an opinion?

Definitely USA, their hockey program has excelled. I`m not sure if Russia knows where they stand right now as an hockey power. Seems like unity is a big issue with Russia and leadership issues. |

There is a big 6 in International Hockey. Canada, Russia, US, Sweden, Finland, and the Czech Republic.
They are all rivals and any year any of those teams can win.
Personally, I like Sweden this year. I think their youth program is better than most and with many of their younger players getting a crack in the Elite League as underagers, they are better develops.
Actually, I can't bet against Canada. So it's Canada#1, then Sweden. |

I'd agree with Duke.
Their hockey program has improved drastically. There are also a lot of Canadians who have moved south to help develop our southern neighbors.

I definetly agree that recently, the last decade US has been our biggest rivals, but i'm not sure overall who are main rivals are, because 72 and 87 will always have a place in the hearts of canadians

Slovakia beat sweden, and you don't even count them in the top 7, Chara, halak, gaborik and hossa are all gamebreakers. Slovakia almost won a medal at the olympics, they have a better team on paper then the americans |

In the last 10 yrs on the jr level i would say it is definitely Russia seeing that they either beat canada or eliminated them most yrs, however; in the last 4yrs i would say the US is now their top rival as US Hockey has come flying on the scence.
Overall on a international level Russia is the obvious choice, but in the last 8 yrs i would say the swedes would canada's biggest rival and if not biggest rival the most difficult for them to defeat.
