Mike Fisher has been traded to Nashville for a 1st round pick in 2011 and a conditional 2nd or 3rd round pick in 2010(Depending on how Nashville does in the playoffs). I din't see this coming, but Fisher and family might be happy, remember who his wife is...
Bring back the Jets!

Wow, feelin' the love for Ottawa here, one of their best players gets traded and only one comment, lol.
Funniest thing ever, btw - apparently, Ottawa radio stations have now banned Carrie Underwood songs!
All in all, seems like a good trade for both teams I guess, but . . . if I had been the Ottawa GM, Fisher is the one guy I wouldn't have traded. But who knows, maybe he asked for a trade - perhaps one of the few members of the Ottawa fan base could enlighten us on that.
So where does Ottawa finish up next year for their first round pick, hmm? If it's a top three pick, this trade looks good for Ottawa . . . but if they surprise and only get 10th or 12th? Then, I'd say the deal was a bad one.

Fisher didn't ever say that he wanted to me traded, but he has a limited no trade clause (he can only name 10 teams he doesn't want to play for) so he didn't really have a choice. That said, given that his wife lives in Nashville, it'll be good for them. (Of course the importance of hockey in Nashville can be summed up by the Nashville paper's headline "Predators acquire Carrie Underwood's husband."  ) |

That, and the fact that they'd add something like, "he is a professional sportsman who plays ice hockey, a game played in an ice rink where players try to score on each other with a small black disc called a puck"

I did hear that as well regarding the headline. Can't really fault a city that was built on country music to have a headline about a country music star can you?? It's no different than Elisha Cuthbert being called Dion Phaneuf's girlfriend in TO but in LA Dion Phaneuf is known as Elisha Cuthbert's boyfriend.
Not everything revolves around the world of hockey every much like the world does not revolved around Toronto like many may believe.
Finally, before we start picking on the folks in Nashville and their lack of understanding of hockey we might want to point out their 15,000 fans a night in a stadium that holds right around 17,000 for hockey. Believe it or not, that is comparable to Boston in both attendance and population.

Beans, you always have to have a dig at Toronto, no matter what the topic....
Like it or not Beans the hockey world does indeed revolve heavy around the city of Toronto...( too bad its usually about thier crap teams )...playing much better later though.
Losing or not the Leafs are the richest NHL team whose barn seats are ALWAYS sold out. The leafs have ( i would say ) by far the most fans of all NHL teams. The media always do focus on the leafs, who are usually losing. CBC does indeed carry almost inclusively leaf games. The city of TO holds the hockey hall of fame. They are second over-all, all-time with the most Stanley Cup victories. No matter where they play, you will ALWAYS find leaf fans in the arena, always.
These are many reasons Beans why the hockey world DOES INDEED revolve around the leafs ~~~ don`t be jealous  |

I am in agreement with Beans on that one. By the way how many of those prestigious cups do they leafs have in the last 40yrs??????? Hockey hall of fame has nothing to do with the team as the most representatives are from LA HABITANT'S it is do to demographic. 6 million plus population, world reknown hotspot for vacationers. Location of 100's of Fortune 500 companies and some of the wealthiest individuals in the world.
These games are not sold out by you or me Duke but by those Fortune 500 companies that you see Empty platinum seats after the first as there all down below drinking. A fact that players do not have a desire to go to Toronto shows that it is impossible to be the MECCA of hockey as w/o players there is no game.
Population & Economics are the only reason Toronto is the most well known. Also if you are the only team that is plastered on the tv then you should have the most fans. Hockey knowledge & passion again goes to LA Habitant.
I live in Toronto and know that your comment was just leaf biased Duke. Hope i wasn't ignorant just stating the facts.

Are they number 2 all - time in cup wins ?? Do you know another team besides Montreal who has more cup wins than Toronto ?? |

It was because they were discussing the fact that a Nashville newspaper said that the predators aquired Carrie Underwoods husband. I think(correct me if i'm wrong Beans) but I think he was just pointing out that in some cities (example-Nashville), country music is more popular than hockey. As opposed to a place like Toronto.

What a surprise....another Leafjacking, cripes.
I like this trade, today on the coverage of Hockey Day in Canada, they had a quick interview with Bryan Murray, and he stated that he was happy to be able to accomodate Fisher, by trading him not only to a team that is contending and wants him, but is also good for his personal life.
Murray went on to say that his mandate is to now rebuild with youth, so the value of the trade is in line with what the team's direction is.
We all love our hockey, but the dude is married to one of the more attractive ladies, IMO, of the world and he can now be close to her. Plus, it is most likely not his career that will be funding the future of the two of them, so much as hers.
Win, win, and a feel good situation to boot! |

This is true i was in Nashville for the habs preds last season on november 22nd i believe the rink was far from empty, as beans said 15 000 people is alright , the the atmosphere was decent,, what saved Nashville Hockey was a gm plant got moved from Detroit to Nashville along with a lot of employees,, they call them Predwing fan down there,,

As doublechamp stated, my point was that Nashville is not a hockey town like Toronto is. To think it can be is unbelieveably ignorant. To make fun of the place because it literally built country music is laughable. That was my point.
Who was it that turned it into a Leaf thing by defending the hallowed Blue and White??? Twas not me.
Finally, it was great to see Fisher have a decent game in Nashville last night. He will be a great fit on that team as they are the protypical blue collar team and he is the prototypical blue collar player. |

And I still say it's laughable that Nashville has a hockey team. And yeah, I get it that Nashville is the self-proclaimed capital of country music, and Carrie Underpants is a big star and all that, sure. That doesn't change the fact that it is a bogus hockey market, IMHO.

Beans is right - NSH has an average attendance of nearly 16,000 per game. Its nothing to sneeze at. |

According to ESPN, the Predators average attendance to date this year is 15,956. From the same report, that puts them ahead of 10 other NHL team, 6 of which are former Stanley Cup champions.

i said it in a previous post and i'll say it again i've been to a game in Nashville it is deffinetly a decent hockey market, and the Rink actually has a decent atmosphere,, again i will say it a lot of detroit natives got moved their when GM moved a plant and they are very regular attendies of the Preds,,, and you don't even have to have been to a game to know this as Fat has pointed out above.
