Aside from the fact that Phoenix cannot really support an NHL team, they appear to have the worst nickname in hockey. What's a "Yotes?". Take two letters off the the team name, and that's your nickname? How do you even pronounce "Yotes."
Would you do the same with other team namesakes? Instead of two letters, why not take one letter from the team name instead of two? Then you would have "Ruins," "Angers" and "Lames" for Boston, New York and Calgary. Not good nicknames actually, especially the Ruins and Lames.
But if you stick with taking two letters off the front of a team's nickname, you only have one team nickname which is in use (aside from the "Yotes"), and that's the "Nucks."
What does this all mean? Nothing, absolutely nothing! Just ramblings from a hockey fan on a night without hockey, one of the few nights without hockey in what seems to be a long time!
I will say this though. Long live the Nucks, but I wish the Yotes would just R.I.P.!

I second that emotion!
I guess it's different strokes for different folks, but I don't mind the nickname "yotes" myself. (pronounce the yo as in "yo-yo", the 'otes' part as in "notes", to clarify). It gives the name coyotes (which I pronounce kai-yoh-tees, since I am not from the midwest) that western slangy drawl thing . . . like when someone passing by mentions, "G'ol dang it, better keep yer eyes peeled for them there coyotes (pr. kai-yotes) runnin' about!" It's kind of funny and quaint, I'd say, and certainly don't mind it.
'Nucks, on the other hand is . . . well, it rhymes with a lot of things, for starters. Ducks, trucks, and perhaps a bad word in there as well. Many literary possibilities when trying to disparage that team - and probably not the greatest nickname. But certainly not offensive, IMHO.
But really, this whole thread will go viral if someone mentions a certain Toronto team's name, and the fact that it is . . . terrible english. The Leafs have got to be the only team name that is spelled and pluralised incorrectly . . . although, somehow, the Leaves might not sound so great either.

From urbandictionary.com
1. Yote is an abbreviation for Coyote. A small, North American canine. Concidered a pest by many, they help keep down the rat population.. As well as cat populations.
"That thar' yote just pounced that mouse!" yelled uncle Bob.
"That yote just killed my cat! Now it's mine!" roared uncle Billy as he loaded the varmit rifle.
