Detroit has to be one of the best they allways seem to find that 5-6 or even later round draft pick that ends up being a star in the leauge. |

Detroit does have some late rounders, but they only have 22 that they have drafted playing in the NHL, compared to Colorado who have 38...

I think that basing this off the number of players they drafted on their team is not a true measure of how a team drafts. Just because a player doesn't play for a team does not mean that team drafted poorly. It could mean the trade poorly and/or develop their talent poorly.
I think a better test of how well a team drafts is how many players they drafted are playing in the NHL and how many are producing. I think another test is a team such as Detroit, Colorado, New Jersey, or Dallas who have succeeded in the league for a long time, normally have late and higher round draft picks, and still find the quality players.
Weather they are playing for the team that drafted them or not is really irrelevant on how well they draft.

Im not sure if Detroits late round draft picks that turn out to be good players if it wasnt for their excellent coaching staff and vets in the room that help them along. I dont know if Detroit is the best i am just saying i allways seem to here about another great player in their system that so many other teams choose to pass up. That being said any pick could be hit and miss if you got a guy coming up threw the system and he gets hurt he may never play a single game in the NHL. So you cant say Colorado is the best because so and so many players are playing in the show. One other point about draft picks is teams often trade them away for hopes of a good playoff run so your stat would be a little more accurate if you shoud me the % of players that play in the NHL from each teams draft picks. EX: Colorada has 100 picks lets say 50 make it Det. has 75 picks 40 make it. Is that not about the same? |

I think we can all agree that all time it clearly belongs to the Habs. They would trade their has beens for draft picks and always had great teams.
Habs get number 25 this year |

I'd go with New Jersey.
NJ always seem pick a player no one has really heard tell of and then bring them up properly in the farm system.
They then come up to be well rounded players, and doing well for NJ. They may not be players we hear a lot of, but they are steady, solid players.

What?? How?? Why?? The Law of Averages says that if you do something enough times, it will eventually work. You could say that any of the Original 6 teams have drafted the best because they have drafted the most.
